Biography

Note: Year estimates are badly off in this tree, with grandsons being born the same year as their supposed grandfather.

Ynglingasaga

Olaf Gudrodsson was son of Gudrod the Hunter (the Magnificent) [1]and his wife, Alfhild daughter of King Alfheim. He was afterwards known as Geirstad-Alf. [2]Olaf was about 20 years old when Gudrod died and Olaf divided the Kingdom with his brother, Halfdan. Olaf lived mainly at Geirstad. He died of a disease of the leg. [3]No wife is named for Olaf. His son was Rognvald the Mountain High subsequently King of Westfold.[4] [5]

Olaf and Amlaib

Olaf has by some been identified as Olaf, King of Dublin from 853-871. [6] As this does not mesh with Olaf being the older uncle of Harald Fairhair, whom Amlaib was defending against in 871, this theory is generally considered disproven.[7]

Note: his wife is said to be Lifa Gudrodsdottir in various online family trees, but none of them provide any sources, and she does not seem to be named in any sagas. This is probably due to confusion with Liv Dagsdatter, his grandmother according to Ynglingasaga.

Several online family trees list him as king of Vestfold and Jutland.

Gudrodsson-70 and Gudrødsson-74 appear to represent the same person because: Reasonably clear duplicates. Gudrødsson might be considered the better spelling.
Disconnected Ringsdottir-1 as mother: per comment on her profile, she was not the wife of Gudrod, therefore not the mother of a "Gudrodsson" child.

Gudrodsson-70 and Gudrodsson-73 appear to represent the same person because: The mother is Alfhild Alfarinsdotter and the other should be disconnected - see comment on Ringsdottir-1, it is clear enough.

Gudrodsson-73 and Gudrodsson-70 are not ready to be merged because: Neither of the mothers here have appropriate dates of birth to have been this person? mother. Mother? identity ought to be resolved, first, I think.

Vestfold-7 and Gudrodsson-70 appear to represent the same person because: Same man from content. Vestfold is a location name. His father was Gudrod the Hunter, hence Olaf Gudrodsson
