After Work plot

"A thought-provoking film that looks at the phenomenon of work in the 21st century with the razor sharp X-ray vision and equally sharp humour. From Kuwait to Korea, from the US to Europe, and from nine to five."

Work work work. Our job is often crucial to our identity and we spend more time at it than time with family or friends. In South Korea, they work so much that computers are forced to be turned off at the end of the day so that employees can no longer work. The constitution of Kuwait, on the other hand, states that a job is a basic right, which means that sometimes 20 people are employed for one job.

The documentary shows the extremes of work ethic in the world - from Koreans who work 18-hour days out of fear of their bosses and Americans who derive status from 'hard work' to Italian youths who voluntarily do nothing and Kuwaiti who do bullshit jobs. (sitting behind a desk all day without doing anything) – and that is fascinating, but the documentary does not have much content, other than the somewhat clichéd moral that work is important to give meaning to our lives, but that we are slavery- should avoid such exploitation with, for example, a basic income and a life focused on leisure and self-development.
