Tom Hanks is fantastic as the protagonist, but his screenplay is far from truly being one. All dialogues revolve around characters (mostly Hanks') calling naval instructions for most of the runtime and looking either through a window or binoculars.

It was a great movie, and not quite abstract, but a very cool effect from knowing the U boats were observing since the plane left, but not knowing when they would strike. Action movie wise it would be 4 stars, but because of realism and accuracy that caught my attention, it is 5 stars

Director Schneider does the absolute maximum with a so so script written by Hanks, whose role as captain is typical two dimensional. Hanks also looks a bit old to be a captain in this film. The foregoing shared, Schneider’s work makes this a definite watch if you appreciate this genre of movies.

Tom Hanks is a good actor. The only reason I gave this a chance. It was better than doom scrolling videos, but not much better. The CGI is over the top. No way one ship takes on 4 U-boats and comes out on top. Was hoping this would be on par with my other favorite WWII U-boat films. Like U-571, das boot, and run silent, run deep. But sadly it fell short.
