You can also find a Cafe and souvenir shop there and a kids playground. The scenery is so beautiful to roam around.
Never miss this show when you´re in Detmold.
Amazing experience and very informative. I love to watch it again and let "der Adler" do a bit relax or a quiet stop in my head.Written 13 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Parking was a bit of an issue as it is rather limited due to ongoing construction works.
Kids go free, which is great and overall the Freilichtmuseum is very reasonably priced.
We had an amazing day. It's well worth a full day trip there is so much to see and explore. We spent half a day and we didn't get to see everything so we will definitely return.
The kids loved the Paderborner Dorf where they could see a blacksmith in action. There was also a large indoor playground which was very popular :) As we were visiting during the Easter weekend, there were lots of Easter related activities for children.
We had a great day and will definitely be back!Written 5 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Not that we would not recommend going there anyway, just to have seen it. It's worthwhile learning the story of Ariminius before going there, especially when wanting to have a chance to educate others.
The parking (4 euros) can only be paid by cash at the machine.. but the tourist office allows you to pay by card, luckily..
For us it was a good combo with the ruins of Falkenburg (from where we could even see the Hermansdenkmal on the hill in the distance) and the Externsteine.Written 17 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s just a small park but you’ll have fun interacting with beautiful birds . There’s the typical bird show which is hilarious for kids . Food cart to satisfy hunger and quench your thirst . It’s just near Externsteine so don’t miss this other magnificent park . I love the garden with colorful flowers too . It’s best to go there by car . Or get to know schedule of bus so you don’t miss it .Written 26 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 314HahaGermany644 contributionsDer Schloss has beautiful ground with water fountain and full of flowers and greenery views.
Sunday morning is closed and was not able to see inside but the souvenir shop was open and we got some stuff.
On our next visit, I´ll see to it we focus the inside´s and historical sightsWritten 23 May 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The locals are also so very friendly.Written 6 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- StevenKolsterenGroningen, The Netherlands190 contributionsThe museum houses diverse collections but the must-see is the part devoted to Hermann and the myth around him. From Roman statues, 19th century paintings to movies and posters and a replica in Neu Ulm in the USA. Combine with the Denkmal south of Detmold.Written 6 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- ArjanS87Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, The Netherlands84 contributionsWe came here from Hermansdenkmal (which you can actually see here on a distant hilltop) and before heading on to the Externsteine.
Typically people will likely park at Landhaus Hirschsprung and walk about 1.5 km and 115 m elevation up to the ruins, as parking is nearly impossible next to the ruins.
The ruins themselves are down to the outlines only, besides a semi preserved tower. We did like the walk around the castle foundation and there was plenty to see to tickle the imagination.
This, together with the chance to do a short hike, made it worth the time.Written 17 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
