Brief Life History of Bouchard V

Bouchard V de Montmorency, born in 1129 and died in 1189 in Jerusalem, Baron de Montmorency, Lord of Écouen, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, Attichy and Hérouville. Son of Mathieu I of Montmorency and Aline, illegitimate daughter of King Henry I of England. «b»Biography«/b» Since King Robert in 997 forced his ancestor Bouchard le Barbu to exchange his post from Île Saint-Denis, from where he ransom boats passing on the Seine including those from the Abbey of Saint-Denis, bringing Abbé Vivian to bring him to justice before the king, for the Montmorency estate in order to keep him away from the abbey, the family did their best to enlarge their estate to the detriment of that of the abbey and to decrease the power of this establishment by founding competing establishments. Following in his father's footsteps on this point, in 1169 Bouchard V allowed the Grandmontain monks to settle in his forest of Montmorency. This community becomes theGrandmontain priory of Meynel 3, also called priory of Meynel-lez-Maffliers, in the current commune of Maffliers (Val-d'Oise). «b»Marriage and children«/b» In 1173 4 he married Laurence de Hainaut 5 (diedAugust 9, 1181), daughter of Baudouin IV of Hainaut and aunt of Queen Isabella, wife of King Philippe II Auguste; of which he has: 1.) Mathieu II de Montmorency (died 1230); 2.) Eve de Montmorency, who died without issue; 3.) Thibault?; 4.) Alix de Montmorency (1173 -February 15, 1221, buried in the Abbey of Haute-Bruyère), married to Simon IV de Montfort , Count of Leicester (1204), Viscount of Albi, Béziers and Carcassonne (1213-1218), Count of Toulouse de (1215-1218 ). They have in particular: a.) Amaury de Montfort, Constable of France, married Béatrice de Bourgogne from the House of France. He is the stem of the branch of the counts of Montfort-L'Amaury, assimilated by the house of Dreux; b.) Guy de Montfort, Count of Bigorre by his wife Pernelle de Comminges; 5.) Joan Bouchard V also has a natural son, Josselin de Montmorency (died in Saint Jean-d'Acre in 1191)
