New World Development is glad to announce the acquisition and the conservation of the State Theatre, a grade 1 historic building, with plans to revitalise the historic site. Adrian Cheng, CEO of New World Development said the Group will do their best to embark the transformation project that is historically and architecturally significant to Asia. “We will do our best to conserve and restore this iconic building to its original glamour and build a cultural oasis that serves the next generation.”
The group has assembled a team of local and international consultants with rich experience in heritage conservation. With British firms WilkinsonEyre and Purcell, as well as Hong Kong-based AGC Design leading the team, the Group also established an advisory committee to gather opinions from conservation experts, scholars and famous performers. In the preliminary conception, New World Development will restore the entire building and the roof truss and turn the State Theatre into a thriving cultural events venue once again to consolidate Hong Kong's status as the cultural capital.
