Mid-America Christian Advances to SAC Baseball Championship Game with a 15-8 Victory Over Science & Arts

Evangels Hit School Record Seven Home Runs in Win

Chickasha, Okla. – Mid-America Christian rallied from a four deficit on the power of a new single-game record for home runs as the Evangels defeated No. 3 seed Science & Arts 15-8 Monday afternoon in an elimination game held at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.
 
The top-seeded Evangels now advance to the Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Championship game against No. 2 seed Oklahoma City on Tuesday, May 7, starting at noon at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.
 
The Drovers opened the contest with four runs in the first inning as Gunnar Hansen drove in a run with a single up the middle while Ian Ortiz laced a bases-loaded double to score three more runs and give Science and Arts a 4-0 lead.
 
Mid-America Christian cracked three of their school-record seven home runs in the top of the third as Zach Stark, Jacob Police, and D’Andre Gaines all hit solo shots in the frame to cut the deficit to 4-3. The home run barrage continued in the fifth as Police and Carlos Medina each three-run blasts to put the Evangels on top 9-4 while Gaines and Anthony Hampton blasted two-run shots in the sixth frame to extend the score to 13-4. MACU added a run in the seventh inning off a field pitch to push the advantage to 14-4.
 
Science & Arts cut into the Evangels’ lead as Ortiz and Ben Lawson both hit run-scoring singles in the home half of the seventh to make the score 14-6 while Peyton McDowall hit a two-run double in the eighth to get the Drovers to within six runs at 14-8.
 
Mid-America Christian added an insurance run in the ninth as Noel McGarry-Doyle scored a run off a double to right field to give the Evangels a 15-8 victory.
 
Oritz paced the Drovers at the plate by going 4-for-5 with four runs batted in while McDowall was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored in the loss.
 
Medina led the way for Mid-America Christian as he was 3-for-5 batting with three runs batted in while scoring a run. Police was 2-for-4 at the dish with four runs batted in two runs scored while Gaines had two hits with three RBIs.
 
Zane Robeaux earned his 10th win of the season by going 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts to help the Evangels advance for a chance to play for their first conference baseball title.
