Very cool. Love the look of the wooden canoes and have read just about every George Washington Sears writing about trekking in his famous canoes.

Nice find looks like it should not be too bad to do. Hard to tell about all of it but is the wood in good shape? What is it covered in. I’ve used heat gun to release fiberglass covering before

Nice looking canoe. It is in decent shape for 101 year wooden canoe, and it comes with a birth certificate. It should be a fun project.
Thanks,
Dan

No broken ribs and the interior looks like it will clean up well.
I felt around in the bow and stern I didn’t feel any broken bits but I’m sure there will be a surprise or too.
I believe there’s Fiberglass repairs over the original canvas.
Thank you!

Now, that's an awesome canoe. I've wanted to build one for years now, I just wouldn't know where to start. You even have it's birth certificate. Congrats, Kevin.

The Wood Canoe Heritage Association and others armed with donor money digitized over 200,000 Old Town build records. There’s are couple other mfg mixed in too. Old Town did a great job keeping track of there builds for roughly 90 years.
You can purchase the database and sort through it or on the WCHA web site you post the serial number and someone digs it out for you.
I think it only took 20 minutes for a fine member named Benson to post the build sheet. I’m still amazed they do that for folks. They encourage folks to join their group or make a donation for the service.
I actually joined them a month or so ago. Good folks who remind me of lantern collectors.
In mid July they have their Assembly at Paul Smith's College in the Adirondacks.
There’s actually a seminar on maintaining GPA too so there’s cross over.
Now I need a 1923 lantern lol. There’s a few here already I’m sure.

These are really cool to bad they take up so much room.

I had no idea that they kept records like that. That says something about the company.

They even made notations on the original build sheets detailing factory repairs, updates and ownership changes over at least 70 years.
Thank you!

Nice find! I hope you don't find too many surprises!

My first boat was canvas over wood, a combination 12' sailboat, row boat, motor boat, (had a transom plate that could hang the tiller, or a small motor. it was a great boat, but the wood was rotting out when I got it, and even after reinforcing it in different ways, it finally gave up the ghost...

There may be some rot hiding in the bow and stern planking. The ribs appear to be in great shape.
It was cheap enough that if it gets sawn in half for shelves I'll be OK lol.
That is not my intent though
Thank you!

Sweet!
Art and science meet function.

i built a long hitch extension with a crosspiece to rest canoe end on years ago. Kept the keel upright that way.
Previous plolebarn I built a pair of gusseted wood angles to rest the canoe on on the back wall.
Canoe now is on a wood rack behind the shed. Needing restoration...
Purty colors. Well , cept'n maybe that brown when it's on fire...

That's a nice looking canoe. Take your time and enjoy it.

I built a Bear Mountain Boats, 17' canoe called, Redbird from plans. Milled all the bead and cove cedar strips myself. What a great project!

Thats an awesome find! With an 8’ truck I always just slid the grumman in no problem, but when my brother was going to to take it in his Toyota i took half of an old extension ladder and put those foam canoe blocks on the rungs, it worked great and took the stress off the canoe. We still keep it around just for that. Enjoy your project. I love Yellow

Well, I hope not, Kevin...hopefully it's in better shape than you think, and your work on it goes well. It will be all the more enjoyable after the TLC you put into it.
The build sheet is great to have, and quite interesting, too.
