Odd Girl Out (Korean: 소녀의 세계, Sonyoe Segye; translation: Girl's World) is a South Korean webtoon written and illustrated by Morangg. The story follows Nari Oh, a teenage girl who struggles with her self-image, and her friendship with the 3 prettiest girls in school. It was first published on Naver Webtoon on May 17, 2015, and episodes were published weekly. An English translation began being published on Line Webtoon on July 11, 2018. Season 1 chapters have been collected and published throughout 9 volumes of books. A web drama adaptation of the series called The World of My 17 premiered on Naver TV Cast on April 22, 2020. The first season aired until May 29, 2020, and a second season aired from December 15, 2021 to January 14, 2022.

After a successful winter break makeover, Nari Oh is finally ready for her high school debut. But somehow, she ends up becoming friends with the three prettiest girls in school! Follow Nari as she tries to navigate her brand-new high school life surrounded by beauties.

Summary[]

Throughout Season 1, Nari clashes with bullies and deals with her low self-esteem. She gains confidence and resolves her issues with the bullies with the support and love of her friends: Yuna Lim, Mirae Seo and Seonji Lim, along with a plethora of other characters. As time flies by, she creates more memories with her friends which keep her smiling every day, but she encounters their unfortunate backstories.

After learning the truth about her friends, Nari spends more time with them, but their close friendship ends up becoming an obstacle in their parting. Before she starts high school, Yuna promises her Uncle, Mom, and Grandfather that she will go to the US for treatment for her legs willingly if they let her stay for another year. That year turns out to be much more fun than she had expected. Near the end of the season, Yuna bids farewell and parts ways with her three friends. Mirae and Seonji stay at Nari's house for a while. Season 1 ends with Nari writing a letter to Yuna.

Seonji Lim[]

Seonji Lim faces a horrible time in middle as her so-called friend, Yeseul Jin, makes up stories that make people despise Seonji. Soon, a boy named Seungjoon Lee falls in love with Seonji, but because she doesn't like him back, he decides to go out with Yeseul in order to make Seonji jealous. In the process, Yeseul makes it seem like Seonji and Seungjoon were dating. This makes the others pity her and finally turns Seonji into a complete outcast. She becomes known as "The Boyfriend Bandit".

Mirae Seo[]

Mirae's actual name is Se-ha Seo. When she started high school, she began to go by Mirae. Her story starts with her Mom wanting her to be a child actress, and she makes her participate in a children's show called Children's Village, where the director edits the episodes to make Se-ha look bad on television. As Se-ha gets negative and hateful comments on media, she slowly develops gastritis and requires proper care for her health. During this, another famous child actor, Wookyung Jung helps Mirae. She also meets Yuna Lim, a cousin of Wookyung and Nari's ex-friend and she finally decides to attend C.H. Highschool like Yuna and Nari.

Yuna Lim[]

Yuna Lim starts with an introverted life in elementary school surrounded by admirers but disliked by her teacher. She meets Nari through her Mom, who had been friends with Nari's Mom since long ago. Nari soon moves in to Yuna's community and ends up attending the same school as her. Although Yuna's first impression of Nari wasn't good, she starts to fit in with Yuna's friend group. Around this time, Yuna ends up in a car accident and stays admitted in a hospital for a long time. Nari visits her everyday, despite Yuna treating her badly for doing so. Once Yuna is dismissed from the hospital, Nari visits her every day after school to spend time with her, and Yuna grows fond of her. When Yuna goes back to school, Nari's friend, Miji Yang, and a girl who wants to be friends with Yuna succeed in breaking their friendship. During middle school, the two of them cease communication for three years, until in high school, where Yuna tries and weaves their relationship together again.

Season 2[]

Yuna has flown to the United States to study, leaving Nari, Mirae and Seonji to continue at C.H. High! Now in her second year, Nari strives to make something of herself by joining the Publicity Department, where she encounters obstacles and enemies, including her cousin, Yurim Oh. Love seems to be blooming in the air for Nari as she meets two boys: Seungha Kwon, the studious and popular Class 2-5 president who recently transferred to C.H. High and gets off on the wrong foot with Nari and Chanyang Joo, a quiet boy who prefers his own company that sits next to Nari in class and eventually joins her friend group.

Season 2 shifts focus to Nari's romantic life, with Mirae and Seonji appearing more as supporting characters. The first half of Season 2 focuses on Nari's position within the Publicity (PR) Department, where she is treated unfairly and ostracized by the members. The second half of Season 2 focuses on Nari running for Student Council President and Seungha's family problems.
