Can we get to the Canal Walk shopping centre by public transport?
I see on the web that they have a shuttle service out of certain Cape Town hotels at 50R per person. We're staying at the Waterkant.

There are 2 ways to do this.
1) There is a train service to Century City.
2) Golden Arrow bus service from the grand parade, take the Edgemead bus. You can check the schedule on their web-site at: http://www.gabs.co.za/timetablesTB.asp.
For shopping also consider the mall at V&A Waterfront, a lot closer to the city and easy cab or can walk from City Bowl and Garden District.
Yes u can take the bus or a taxi not vey expensive, and the shopping is cheaper than at the water front
Can someone please tell me where the train is and how much is the train and is there one just before 7am? Thnx get back to me ASAP. And how much is a bus to canal walk from town?
I would suggest you take the bus option especially if you're going to use public transport to get back to your hotel. It's a lot easier. Make sure you understand the schedule and be at the bus stop at least 15min before departure time.
Of course the easiest way is to use a cab....
I would not use the bus. You will get stuck in traffic. Rather look at using the train as it is a 10 minute ride that end in the main station, middle of the city.
Here is the timetable: http://www.capemetrorail.co.za/_timetables/Train_Timetables_October_2012.htm. You are looking at the CAPE TOWN - BELLVILLE VIA MONTE VISTA line and the station is called Century City. It is a 10-15 minute walk from the station to Canal Walk, depending on the individual.
The Canal Walk shuttle info can be found here: http://www.canalwalk.co.za/shuttle.htm (very expensive imho). Their schedule here: http://www.canalwalk.co.za/downloads/ShuttleBusSchedule2.pdf.
I would not suggest to use the train at all, that is however a different route than recommending a train trip from Cape Town to Simons Town and your safety is something that you need to keep in mind, although it is the cheapest way for traveling between these 2 points. Rather opt for the taxi service or even the shuttle bus service. Traffic is something that you do not need to worry about, because if you stay in the City and travel in the morning to Canal Walk, you will travel in the opposite direction of traffic and for the afternoon as well.

Having used the train between Cape Town and Canal Walk I can assure you that there are NO safety issues for you to worry about.
Returning from Canal Walk by bus, regardless of the time of day, you will be stuck in traffic, and I speak from experience.
hi i usually work at canal walk until 9pm and have no way of getting home to Edgemead every day. are there aNy private shuttles available that drop you back directly at your house at night
