I was flying from Brussels to Vilnius via Warsaw with an evening flight arriving in Vilnius well after midnight. I had a small check in luggage which I checked-in in Brussels and picked up in Vilnius. Since it was late, the check in luggage was on the belt in Vilnius immediately after landing, so I picked it up and left the airport. It is not clear whether it was in Brussels or during transfer in Warsaw, but the lock of the suitcase was opened and somebody who had a lot of time to check every single item “shopped” in the suitcase - when I opened it upon arrival home I immediately saw that all cosmetics pouches were open, including folded Longchamp bag, clothes thrown back in on top in whatever way, not in the way I packed them. It took me some time to realise what was missing, but the “shopper” took a full perfume by Crivelli, that I bought just days ago, from one of the cosmetics bags, and D&G sunglasses. I immediately wrote a complait to LOT and a week later got a reply that I should have gone to lost and found at the airport and filed luggage damage complaint which is ridiculous because the suitcase itself was not broken or damaged, so there was no way for me to see before I left the airport that it was opened during transfer and things were stolen. And nobody ever is opening their luggage at the belt and checking through it. I was also suggested to report it to the police, which kind of makes sense, but we all know that even if I filed immediately at the arrival airport (which I am pretty sure was not where the theft happened), all I would get is a report with my statement and a lot of time lost to file it. And the airline would do nothing at all nor will it cover 200€ paid for the perfume, just like now. Moreover, given that the lock was opened without breaking it, it had to be someone who has the key to open these locks which normally should be airport security and police. For sunglasses, I got a very long list of things which according to airlines’ rules shouldn't be packed in checked in luggage, among them are optical products and eyeglasses fall under this category, therefore my own fault as well. Conclusion: nobody is responsible and complaining or looking for compensation is just a loss of time.…
