Having lived in Grants Pass for 10 years I feel highly disappointed to be here. Crime rate has skyrocketed and our sweet town has been invaded by homeless bums. People cannot even sell their homes downtown because of them. You cannot even eat downtown without them walking around with their drug induced shouting and stealing food and tips off tables. I refuse to shop if I can help it in Grants Pass. Our town is a slum now. If you come here, be careful and have your head on a swivel and for goodness sake, do NOT go to any of the parks. They are dangerous and we tax paying citizens paid for them. Liberal government has ruined a once beautiful town.
Grants Pass is a charming town. I have traveled all over the world and I can say confidently that there is no place like it. I describe it as God's country with Hell's own people. The landscape and surrounding area is beautiful, but the town leaves much to be desired. The police department in this area receives more calls than any police department in the state of Oregon, and the crime rate is very high for its population. It is unfortunate. With the recent decriminalization of drugs, houseless individuals have flocked here and the once lovely parks are now littered with needles, trash, and slums; making it not safe for families.
Grants Pass is a small city/town with a population of around 35,000. I didn't go to school here, but based on friends opinions the schools are generally pretty good. The downtown area is pretty small and friendly with a lot of small businesses and restaurants. There are numerous grocery and shopping places, with a fair amount of cheaper options. There are multiple parks, with river access and the rivers are pretty clean. There are a few homeless people at most of the parks. Overall a pretty safe town.
I've lived here for around 25 years. It's beautiful for sure.. but the people absolutely ruin this place. I've traveled far and wide for work opportunities and other adventures and I can say southern Oregon is unique in the fact how generational disfunction is bred so deeply that I will make sure 100% my kids won't grow up here. This town and the immediate surroundings have a darkness that's pretty disturbing and it's found without truly looking when you are young. Don't move here.. because you or someone you love might end up being another victim to this place.
There's nothing to do here except for the summer and that's it. The City closes down at 9:00 you feel weird if you take a walk after that like you're going to get talk to you by the cops or something there is literally nothing to do after 9:00 pm and if you live in a rural area forget it stay home you cannot walk around here there's a lot of homeless people and it feels very unsafe it's not just them but it's I believe the local government council whatever you want to call it the detours people from enjoying the town at night kind of sucks
I would describe Grants Pass as an area that's family friendly, but low on the diversity scale and poor in terms of encouraging healthy lifestyles. They don't have much of a night life here (except the local bars). We don't have any night clubs within the city limits.
Although it's great in the summers, for rafting, hiking, and camping. We have some great parks, and the scenic views are spectacular! I just wish there were more things to do during the winter/spring.

I lived in Grants Pass for 2 months, June & July 2022. I was 28. Awesome little town with a huge farmers market, friendly folks, lots of shops & restaurants, multiple supermarkets, multiple dispensaries, and a cool river cruise company.
Been to 48 states and southwest Oregon is one of the most beautiful regions in the U.S. Gorgeous forests, rivers, and mountains in every direction. Cali coast and redwoods only a few hours away. Rogue River Valley wine country is excellent. Well worth visiting many of the nearby towns & cities.
It's in Oregon, so homes are expensive. But if you're only renting, we got a nice 2-bedroom place for under $2,400.

I used to love the area. Now, the area has been taken over by the homeless and dope heads. The city parks are full of homeless camps, and our kids have nowhere to go have fun. I would at least get a homeless center put in and give the kids back their parks.
I have loved growing up in Grants Pass. I was born and raised here. This was extremely fun for me because it is a pretty small town, but has many activities to participate in. I also live that there are rivers here to enjoy and swim in. The drive to the coast isn't far either. Grants Pass is also a beautiful place. It is in a valley with trees and mountains surrounding it. Nature is very important to me and there is so much nature throughout Grants Pass. Every season has its own pretty traits. My favorite part of Grants Pass, where I spend a lot of my time, is downtown Grants Pass. There are so many cute shops with an incredibly large variety of products to buy. I love meeting the owners too and hearing their stories. Another bonus to Grants Pass is their schools. They have many different schools and churches to attend. This also has so many job opportunities for any age. The history of Grants Pass is interesting as well. The one downside, in my opinion. There isn't much diversity.
This is a nice enough town if you're looking to retire in a rural area. The people here typically enjoy hunting, football, "mudding", going to the dunes, and fishing. If that doesn't sound like you, it can feel too small. There isn't much else to do.
Quite town. Good for retirees. Wouldn't recommend for younger professionals. Little to no job opportunities outside of retail and healthcare.
There isn't a lot of ways for youths to engage with the community. However, the area is growing and a lot of new opportunities are opening up for its residents.
After living in the PNW for nearly 20 years as a transplant from Arizona, I’d say Grants Pass use to be a great place. Like many other places, the housing market is crazy. We’ve made great friends here and the beauty of Oregon is hard to beat. That being said the last several years, the valley gets socked in with wildfire smoke. The fog in the winter and smoke in the summer, leaves spring and fall for decent weather. There is also a lack of diversity in this small town. Chain restaurants abound, however if you look hard enough there are a few really good restaurants. Time to move on to our next adventure.
Other reviews speak on the "lack of diversity", and want to go elsewhere. Then go! It irritates me that people judge towns by their skin color and regard themselves as non-judgmental. People here, regardless of their skin color, are by and large very hospitable and welcoming. We have neighbors that look out for one another, there are fantastic trails, great shops, good restaurants and awesome churches here. The town is, by and large, very clean. City and business owners keep their buildings in good repair. There are drugs, a small transient population and poverty in Grants Pass, but this can be said of almost any town in the West. We've lived in a lot of places (Montana, California and Oregon), and we regard Grants Pass to be our forever home.
Grants Pass is set in a beautiful area. Lots of outdoor activities and scenery. The people are kind, but somewhat "small minded". The area lacks cultural and ethnic diversity and can be a bit discriminative. It is also rather expensive and can be hard for a young adult to flourish. There is also an entire season of the year where the sky is filled with smoke and the air is unsafe to breathe.
Don't get sick. Health care is crap. Had to go out of state for specialists. EVERYTHING takes time. You will die before Doctors figure out what the problem is.
I've lived here since I'm 2 and I'm now 55 years old.
I've never really cared for it.
The best thing about living here is that it's certainly beautiful and the fresh air.
Phony people, white Christian phony snobs, racists is what you will mostly find here and not a lot of culture.
I don't mean everyone is like that, but you will find a lot of that here. I don't like judging others yet I am doing so myself and I apologize for it right now. I don't want to be what I don't like in others so I apologize for judging.
This town just needs to mature with the times.
And unless you already have somewhere to live if your wanting to move here don't bother coming because there are no rentals.
And if you should be lucky enough to find one even if it's in the country on a beautiful acre and you can even have a horse, you will be told (NO DOGS ALLOWED).
