Jodie Comer has been cast in the lead role in Sir Kenneth Branagh's latest directorial effort, The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde.

The Radio Times said that while the plot of the film is currently being kept under wraps, it's thought to be a contemporary psychological thriller.

Filming for the project is set to begin in an as-yet unknown part of the UK.

Sir Kenneth, who was born in Belfast, went on to direct a film about his experiences growing up in the city. Belfast was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards and the director himself won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Ms Comer became well-known for her role in Killing Eve. She most recently starred in The End We Start From and will soon be seen in The Bikeriders.

Sir Kenneth hasn't revealed whether he'll make an appearance in The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde. He's been seen recently in the Sky series This England, where he played former prime minister Boris Johnson.

He will soon be seen in new action adventure film Mayday, which has been helmed by Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. It also stars Ryan Reynolds and Maria Bakalova.
