Literally, the film title means "Lately, I don't know why, I like the Charleston a lot." Kihachi Okamoto spotted the talents of Go Riju by his independent shorts and invited him to co-write and star in this film. At that time, Riju was still an university student in his teens.
August 5, 1981. The 18-year old Jiro, desperate to lose his cherry, tries to rape a young woman but gets arrested. He has to spend the night at the police station, and in his cell he meets a group of grumpy old men who call one another Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and so on. They have indeed proclaimed a state of their own, Yamatai (name of an ancient Japanese kingdom). Earlier that day, they pay a state visit to the Diet of Japan. Before leaving they have a meal at the Diet canteen but they fail to pay. That's why they are arrested.
They and Jiro are released the next day. The Yamatai old men have their independent state in a house whose owner allows them to live there for free and forever. However, the owner has been missing since December 8 the previous year. His wife and elder son refuse to acknowledge the old men's claim. It turns out that Jiro is the younger son of the owner and he gets appointed by the Yamatai old men as their Labour Minister. Before leaving on a long-expected trip on August 15, Jiro and the Yamatai old men must defend their country against the attack of the thugs hired by Jiro's family to repossess the house.
