Randle ready for Tickford to rise

By Thomas Miles

Thomas Randle is expecting Tickford to “step it up” with its current results not a “true indication of where we are.”

Despite being one of the biggest and most successful teams on the grid and having flashes of front-running pace, Tickford has suffered an underwhelming start to 2024.

Having held hopes to contend for the championship, Cam Waters heads to Wanneroo 15th, while Randle is 13th. Both drivers are already more than a full race weekend’s worth of points behind the leading Triple Eight cars.

Waters has been on the back foot since the very first round at Bathurst when he lost a wheel, whilst the Monster Mustang was also caught up in collisions in Melbourne and Taupo with Matt Payne and Tim Slade respectively. But Waters’ pace has still been evident with two pole positions.

Randle has endured an up and down season, with P4s at Bathurst and Albert Park the highlights.

But he has not scored another top 10 in the six other races this year.

Randle feels the current championship positions are not a true reflection of Tickford’s potential.

“Probably hasn’t been the most ideal start to the season for Tickford or for us,” Randle told Supercars.com.

“Certainly things that I could have done better. But I think as a whole, as a team and collective, we can all step it up, I believe.

“I think that the results that are on paper aren’t a true indication of where we are.”

Due to the live pit lane order, Tickford will be down in eighth at Wanneroo.

But both drivers could make up significant ground if they return to form in Perth and rise to fourth in the standings with less than 100 points covering fourth to 15th in the championship.

Tickford has taken one-off podiums at Perth in recent years, but has not won there since 2016.
