A rewind in time: Mukesh vs Anil

When Ambani patriarch Dhirubhai died without leaving a will, his sons Mukesh and Anil fought for control of the family business. It was a bitter and lasting feud that eventually resulted in their mother, Kokilaben, stepping in to determine how the business would be divided.

The matriarch promotes peace

The cousins hang out socially

Despite the boardroom wars, the cousins have always hung out. They have been spotted out at clubs together, attending Indian Premier League cricket games and out at restaurants. They are all very private and make sure that they are hardly ever captured on camera.

Attending family events

Those close to the family say there has always been an effort to make sure that the children’s warring fathers don’t come between them as a family. This meant that even at the height of the feud the children would attend big family events like birthdays and religious celebrations.

Brotherly love

Unlike their dads, the male cousins are said to have a strong bond. In particular Jai Anshul and Anant have always had a strong relationship and have regularly been seen at the same parties. In fact, many say they consider each other brothers, more than cousins.

Hope for Mukesh and Anil

Some believe the feud between Anil and Mukesh may be softening as their children grow closer and unite the family. Mukesh even stepped in to pay off some of Anil’s debt to help him avoid jail time.

A new future in business

All of the Ambani cousins have in some way been involved in the family business. Mukesh has made it clear that he is laying the path for his children to take over. With the family feud downscaling, there has been speculation about whether the future of Reliance Industries will see the entire family unite under a single umbrella again, showing the first two generations how it is done.
