Sarthak B probably the best way to introduce gandhi's ideologies to an audience and even though I disagree with most of them, they work well in favour of this film to make it an enjoyable watch. Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Lage Raho Munna Bhai is the last film I ever saw on DVD. And I'm really glad that the final film I saw on that platform turned out to be so great. Everything about this film is absolutely perfect, and that's actually saying something since this is only the second film by Rajkumar Hirani (the first being its prequel). It's really surprising that Hirani created such an iconic duo in his very first duology films. The film is set around Munna Bhai once again, as he tries to impress an RJ after winning a competition about Mahatma Gandhi. It is really funny that Murali, someone who is literally the opposite of Gandhi, resolves to give up on the thing that ensures his survival in the otherwise violent world. Before I saw this film I didn't even know that there are actually people who don't like Mahatma Gandhi, since I was just 7 years old and didn't know anything about politics. As I grew up, I understood the role of Gandhi more and more, and how different political ideologies tend to see him. And Lucky was a good example of this. Lucky tends to be Munna's biggest problem in this film. He is exactly the opposite of what Munna wants himself to be. As one goon is on his path to redemption, the other wants to drag on in the destructive life that he lives. In the world where people tend to use any means to justify their ends, odds are mostly in Lucky's favour. This shows why and how Mahatma Gandhi must have also faced problems in his times. There are occasional stories on Gandhi, telling how he took his decisions and what challenges he had to face, comparing their similarities and differences with Munna. My favourite character in this film was Circuit as usual. He always has the air of being a character who can never want something wrong to happen with Munna and takes any path he needs in order to satisfy his boss. He does make his mistakes and tries a little too hard to appease Munna, but in reality is a person pure of heart and a loyal sidekick. My favourite scene was when Munna becomes an RJ himself and gives tips to his audience by taking help from Mahatma Gandhi's hallucinations. And finally in the end he is able to use these methods to convince Lucky. I really wanted there to be more such films, but now Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi have both aged very much so there's no way we are ever getting this back. Also some things are better off left in nostalgia rather than being dragged on and getting ruined. This film is great to occasionally come back to. If anyone wants to watch Bollywood comedies, this duology is the perfect place to start from. I respect that the movie did something different, but I don't think this movie is as effective as the original. I think the movie has great social messages, like all Rajkumar Hirani projects, but it doesn't have the most well-told story. The first half is messily paced and the movie is more focused on the commentary than the story, and it is not as seamless as some of the director's other work. That being said, it is still fun to see this character in an all-new setting and of course, the messages are important. One thing the movie does was use a lot of the same actors to play completely new characters, which actually frustrated me a bit since it pretty much erases any continuity from the first movie. The movie still has plenty of funny and heartfelt moments similar to what made many people fall in love with the original. Overall, this movie is different in many ways, but at its core, I still liked what I saw.
