Q:
Is this a hike? Beach walk? Public or private?
A:
This is a privately owned area that is intended for the public. It is off leash for dogs in a wooded area above Arroyo Burro beach. Not really a hike more of a walking area. We let our dogs loose and walk about for maybe 45 minutes then head down… more

What kind of terrain? Is the incline gradual or on the steep side? I want to bring my senior arthritic dogs but I need to use a wagon. Any thoughts on how difficult this would be? I would be pulling a total of 120 lbs...yikes!
A:
It’s pretty flat but can be bumpy because of uneven dirt.

An enjoyable place to stroll around with or without your pup. Check out the marvelous view atop the bluff...don't get too close! You'll be parking in adjacent neighborhoods so please be respectful and enjoy your stroll!

Nice place to take a walk and enjoy the ocean views! The entrance is located in residential area with plenty of street parking.
A lot of people brought their dogs as well! - 37612111977/15/2020
Ta place is a great dog park! Dogs can come and run off-leash. They have an area for water for your four-legged friend.
The views are beautiful, great spot for a sunset.
Be careful there are some steep drops and no ropes or fencing so beware where you're throwing the ball for Fido to fetch.
It's mostly dirt, no sand or grass, so the pups will need a bath after but the joy on your dog's face when playing here is so worth it! - 64862174/6/2020
Beautiful views of the ocean and nice walk for the whole family If you follow the main path it's about 20-25 mins and not many hills. My 8 year old does great but I would be careful with younger kids since it is basically on a cliff
Lots of dogs and they could be off leash so if you don't like dogs don't go. - 829886180512/4/2020
We visited Douglas Family Preserve a year ago with our two small dogs and they loved being off leash! There is so much space and our dogs aren't into other dogs, so we never had an issue the whole time there. They could just do their thing sniffing around!
Great views, great photo spots of the coast. Parking is free in the nearby neighborhood. - 10555748812/27/2020
I loved this park! There was so many dogs out and about, and all of them so behaved. We brought our dog here and let's say he had a great time as well haha. Amazing views of the sunset and plenty of places to stop and take a picture. You can smell the salty sea as you stroll through this park. Parking is easy and the park is huge. Can't wait to come back here next time I'm in SB!!

Super cool off-leash dog friendly trail that is kind of like a dog park! It's on a cliff next to the ocean so you get to hear the sounds of the waves and see the views of the ocean. Everyone there was very friendly and practicing social distancing. It wasn't crowded at all. The dogs were very friendly as well. Parking is in a residential area! It's not really a hike but it's a dirt trail so be prepared and wear shoes! The trail is as long as you want to make it! You can walk the entire trail or walk parts of it. It's a nice place to explore and let your dogs explore.

I almost don't want to write this because it's such a nice little "hidden gem" amongst locals on the Mesa! Douglas Family Preserve is a nice, local dog park with a walking/run path option and incredible views of the sunset of Hendry's and Mesa Lane Beach. It's located inside a private neighborhood and parking consists of only street options.
If you are a dog owner with a friendly pup who loves to run freely, burn energy and socialize in public with other fur-babies, this is a great spot for you. They have special areas for the dogs to run around and others that are more private just for walkers/runners. Though the views are absolutely unbeatable, there is no beach access here and the cliff's are not fenced off so it's not the best place for young kids or drunk adults.
I think this would make a beautiful first date spot, mid day walk with friends and pups, family photoshoot location, proposal or small wedding venue, sunrise and sunset viewing spot, and running area. Don't hype it up though, what makes it so lovely is the beauty in it's privacy and peaceful environment. - 9872891/19/2020
Brought our dog here yesterday and not only was it fun and exciting for our dog, we were also treated to some gorgeous, stunning views of the ocean.
Was very clean and plenty of room to run and opportunities to meet and play with other dogs. Would definitely return. - Mike Y.Los Altos, CA13535149611/28/2020
