She has been associated with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for more than 25 years.
Carl has also served as the MC for the “Model Citizen” fashion shows. These shows benefit the MU Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
In November 2016, she was awarded the “Distinguished Service Award,” by the University of Missouri Alumni Association which is the highest award bestowed upon a University of Missouri alum.

In 2010 she was the recipient of the Lydia F. Theurkauf Memorial Sportsmanship Award. In 2016 she joined the Medieval Times equestrian team at the Rose Parade New Year’s Day as a Medieval Times princess.
Her daughter has a degree in Political Science from the American University in Washington, DC. After graduating she was hired by the school to be the School of Professional & Extended Studies Bridge Programs Coordinator.
