She kept mum for months, and now Sunshine Cruz bared why she broke up with long-time boyfriend Macky Mathay.
“Five days bago mag-sixth anniversary kami, nakipaghiwalay ako [kay Macky]... Nakalock-in taping pa ‘yon—through message. I said na, ‘I don’t think may patutunguhan pa itong relationship' so… Nakita ko lang na parang hindi nagle-level up ‘yung relationship. I am 45, parang syempre naghahanap na tayo ng relationship na parang nagle-level up. Hindi ‘yung parang diretso lang.” Sunshine shared in an interview with Karen Davila.
“I gave him a chance and no regrets naman. He was a good guy,” she continued.
Sunshine proves that searching for growth in your relationships, even long-term ones, can be one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself.
When asked about remarriage, Sunshine says it is not in her plans anymore at this point in her life. “Sa totoo lang, ayoko na e, ayoko na [ikasal ulit]. Okay lang ako na life partner kami. Pero ‘yung pagpapakasal sa ngayon hindi ko naiisip,” she clarified.
Sunshine was formerly married to Cesar Montano. They have three daughters, Angelina, Sam, and Chesca. During the interview with Karen, the actress also reveals how time healed the pain from her separation from Cesar.
“[After so many years] wala nang pain e… Bakit kailangang maging bitter? Bakit kailangang magkaroon ng galit sa puso? E eto ako ngayon e, okay ako,” Sunshine said.
In the most sincere manner, Sunshine points out how apologies weren’t needed for her to forgive her ex-husband. “Kahit naman hindi siya humingi ng tawad, okay na ako e; And nakikita ko na okay rin siya. At nakikita ko lalong-lalo na, na masaya ang mga anak ko, kasi for me Ms. Karen, buhay ko ang mga anak ko,” the actress shared.
At present, the actress stars in the hit series Unbreak My Heart along with Jodi Sta. Maria, Joshua Garcia, Gabbi Garcia, and Richard Yap.
