Lady Louise Windsor and Princess Beatrice could "pick up a lot of work" to help the royal diary, a royal commentator exclusively told GB News.

The royal cousins are not working members of King Charles's slimmed-down monarchy.

However, royal commentator Gareth Russell, the author of The Palace: From the Tudors to the Windsors, 500 Years of Royal History at Hampton Court, spoke exclusively to GB News to explain why he thinks Louise, 20, and Beatrice, 35, could do great work for the monarchy.

He said: "Someone like Princess Beatrice or Lady Louise Windsor both have recognisability.

"But they also will be able to pick up a lot of the work that will not be picked up by others because there aren't enough working royals coming through the next generation."

Princess Beatrice is a patron of several dyslexia charities, and her work in this field generates mass public support.

However, these outings are not performed on behalf of the King.

Older royals like the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent, on the other hand, frequently perform engagements to represent King Charles.

Russell noted that these older royals also do invaluable work for the British Royal Family.

He added: "There is also a point that runs through monarchies that it won't always be about curating immediate public approval or immediate recognition in things like public applause or social media.

"And so working royals like the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are people who carry out a lot of very impressive charity work and diplomatic work.

"But it also is something that has a time limit on. At some point, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent will want to take on less of a burden.

"At that point, really the monarchy as it stands is going to require many more working hands.

"If you take out the Duke and Duchess of Gloucesters' engagements, they may not be very well recognised, but if you take away the Gloucesters' work, the royal dairy begins to look anaemic, rather than slimmed down."

Lady Louise is currently a student at the University of St Andrews, so would be unlikely to take up royal duties until she graduates.

Her mother, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh has previously been open about her children being unlikely to become working royals.

She told The Times: “We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely to have to work for a living.

“Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles.

"They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely.”
