Beautifully performed and filmed concert by the master Roy Orbison and Friends. I champion this particular blu-ray/HD release as it contains the original music mix, which I prefer compared to the 30th Anniversary (supervised by his son). You can most likely hear the difference for yourself by going to youtube etc. The 30th anniversary mix raises Roy's vocals, thus changing the balance of voice to music. The original mix sounds MUCH better to me because everything is heard and blends well IMHO.

If yer a Dylan fan, think of the difference between the mixes of 'time out of mind' .... were lanois, for some reason, had dylan's voice 'up' in the mix compared to the rest of the band. In this instance, M.Brauer's new mix of 'time out of mind' alleviates this discrepancy by creating a much more balanced listening experience, where it now sounds like Bob is playing WITH the band. Amazing what a few db's of level change on vocals, will do, to a work of art.

ymmv. but make sure to check it for yourself. As this is most certainly one of the most beautiful concerts ever captured on film. Get it before it goes out of print.

Just a year before his death in 1989, Roy Orbison, riding on the coattails of substantial success with The Traveling Wilburys and simultaneously working on the great album "Mystery Girl" (released posthumously in 1989), gathered together a few dozen of his musical best friends and put off a dynamite show.

Orbison's haunting vocals did not flag one bit through the years, and this concert pays testament to this fact. Absolutely stellar cast backing him up: Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, kd Lang, Jennifer Warnes, Tom Waits et. al. I will leave the rest to guess. :-)

I saw this concert on PBS recently and very much look forward to watching it in Blu-Ray. I should probably mention it is filmed in black and white, hence the title. I'm happy they made this choice, it lends such a great atmosphere to the whole event. Camera work varies from rock steady to shaky hand held but the main thing is the music, which if you're a fan of Roy Orbison at all, you'll be impressed by these great live renditions.

PS Keep an ear out for one of the most bizarre keyboard solos ever, by a very caught-off-guard Tom Waits, it's priceless.

I really love this DVD and CD. The music is awesome and unlike a lot of other concert DVDs I've owned the music is the focus. The 5.1 experience is amazing -I would reccomend having a home theatre set up so you can take advantage of the superb mixing. I only have a DVD player and a CD player so I haven't been able to check out the SA-CD layer on the audio disc, but I have been listening to the CD layer quite frequently. The quality is amazing! I'm thinking of buying an SA-CD player just for this purpose.

If you like Roy Orbison, you MUST own this DVD!

This concert features many younger artists like Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and others. The music is a collection of Roy's best material, and the presentation and instrumentation is flawless. I would rate this among the best video concerts I've ever seen along with Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon's Graceland and Woodstock.
