New Erasmus+ Programme 2021-27

The participation of Sapienza in the New Erasmus+ Program for the seven-year period 2021-2027 has been confirmed by obtaining the ECHE (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education).

Sapienza's international strategy shares the Erasmus+ programme's objectives aiming at:

  • Increasing transnational student and staff mobility with the Programme and partner universities;
  • Providing high-quality inclusive education to attract international students to the European Education Area so to enable greater opportunities for graduates to enter the work world;
  • Strengthening cooperation with universities and national and international stakeholders in partner countries and countries participating in the programme as a driver of innovation and quality.

The main strategic actions include:

  • free movement of students, researchers and staff, with an overall target of 20,000 mobilities over the 7 years of the project;
  • language learning;
  • automatic and digitized recognition of diplomas, in-person and blended mobility abroad, thanks to the implementation of Erasmus Without Paper and European Student Card initiatives;
  • 10% increase in participation in international training opportunities by disadvantaged students through a full range of services and financial resources to supplement European Union contributions;
  • full transparency achieved through promoting Erasmus+ program opportunities;
  • merit-based selection of participants.

Moreover, Sapienza is a member of CIVIS, a university alliance, together with seven other European universities, aimed at creating a European inter-university campus, where students, academics, researchers and staff will move, study and collaborate (Erasmus Policy Statement).

Programme and opportunities

The Erasmus+ Mobility Programme is promoted by the European Union to allow students to spend three to twelve months at another university in Europe or outside of Europe. Erasmus students attend courses, take exams and transfer the earned credits back to Sapienza. Moreover, the Erasmus+ Programme also provides a grant to help you cover the costs of living abroad. As an Erasmus+ student, you are guaranteed the acceptance of all your educational activities completed abroad. You do not have to pay tuition abroad (you pay tuition at the university where you are enrolled) and have all the rights reserved to enrolled students at your host university.
