Lincoln Road in Miami Beach is a place where tourists and locals alike gather any day of the week. It's a great place for people watching and for soaking in that South Beach sunshine without actually stepping onto the sand. Since the early 20th century, this part of town has been the social center of the island and it was once home to Saks Fifth Avenue and even a couple of car dealerships. In the 1950s, Lincoln Road was redesigned, closed off to automobile traffic and became one of the first pedestrian malls in the country. Since then, there’s been the addition of a movie theater, a concert hall, and over 200 shops, restaurants and bars.

When to Visit

Shops and restaurants are open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, though some restaurants and stores may actually close later. Be sure to call individual businesses to confirm their hours. Similar to visiting any other outdoor establishment in Miami, check the weather before planning your day. If rain is in the forecast, carry an umbrella or wear a raincoat, though you can always hide out in a restaurant for a bit. After all, Miami is known for sun showers and thunderstorms that pass pretty quickly.

Where to Eat and Drink

With close to 60 establishments to choose from, one thing’s for sure. You’ll never go hungry or thirsty here. Visiting Shake Shack for a quick burger and fries is always a good idea and then there’s Spris for salad and pizza that won’t leave you begging for a siesta once you’ve finished your meal. Juvia has one of the best rooftops in Miami (head up there for cocktails with a sunset view) and the Cafe at Books and Books is the perfect place to hole up with magazines and a sandwich for hours on end. Power up with some Peet’s Coffee at the Capital One Cafe (where cardholders can enjoy free happy hours and everyone can take advantage of the free Wi-Fi) or chow down on some fresh fish dishes at CVI.CHE 105.

Where to Shop

From apparel and accessories to shoes to books and so much more, it’s not hard to spend a pretty penny here. Alchemist stocks one-of-a-kind candles, fragrances, trinkets, and greeting cards while shops like Anthropologie and Banana Republic are fan favorites for floral dresses, dainty necklaces, and even professional-wear. Need an outfit on a budget? Stop in at H&M, Forever 21 or Rainbow. If it’s home goods you’re looking for, Lincoln Road has a CB2 as well as a Pottery Barn and even a Dog Bar so you can pick up food, treats, toys, and supplies for your favorite furry friend. You’ll find contemporary luxury pieces at Intermix, BCBG Max Azria, Ted Baker, and Y-3. The best deals can also be scored at shops like Marshalls, Ross and even Macy’s.

Things to See

Every Sunday, there’s a farmers market with fresh fruit, veggies, and artisanal goods. Lincoln Road hosts an antique market, too. If that’s not enough, the shopping center also organizes free movie nights under the stars on a 7,000-square-foot projector. Bring the whole family (and some snacks, maybe a blanket or fold-away chairs) for a good old’ evening out.

Parking

There are three garages (the 17th Street Garage, the Pennsylvania Avenue Garage and the City Hall Garage) conveniently located within walking distance of Lincoln Road Mall as well as plenty of street parking depending on what time you arrive to the area. You must pay to park and garage rates start at $2 per hour. For a fast and easy exit, prepay your parking ticket at an automated pay station located inside the garage. Lost parking tickets will result in the maximum daily rate of $20.

Things to Do Nearby

You have the beach, which on a warm, clear day might be your top priority. Rent chairs and an umbrella and veg out on the sand with a book. Dip your toes in the crystal blue South Beach waters or take a nap — do whatever it is your heart desires. You can also hop over to Sunset Harbour and rent paddle boards or kayaks for a day on the water or grab brunch (a must-try is the fish dip!) at Stiltsville Fish Bar, some Thai street food snacks at NaiYaRa or a tapas-heavy dinner and drinks at Barceloneta.
