OLTL's Doris Belack has passed away at Age 85!

One of the most popular, endearing and original cast members of One Life to Live, actress Doris Belack, best most known for her role as Anna Wolek Craig,  has died of natural causes in Manhattan at age 85.  Belack died a few days ago on October 4th.

Belack played Anna from 1968-1977, and played the sister to Dr. Larry Wolek (Michael Storm) and was the wife of Dr. Jim Craig (Nat Polen).   Doris also appeared in daytime roles on Edge of Night, The Doctors, and Another World.

In primetime, Belack appeared on episodes of Law & Order, Everwood, Sisters, and The Golden Girls among others. Belack’s feature film credits included Tootsie, in which she played the executive producer of the soap opera within the movie.  Her husband of 65 years, Tony Award winning producer Philip Rose, died just four months ago.  A joint memorial for Belack and Rose will be held October 17 at noon at the Ambassador Theater. It will be open to the public.

On-Air On-Soaps fondly remembers the Woleks and the Craigs of Llanview, and sends our condolences to Doris’s family and friends.

RIP, Doris!

You were a wonderful & loving big sister to us OLTL viewers in Evanston, Illinois. Thanks For The Memories!

Ah, this brings me back to the One Life to Live of yesteryear. Anna was one of my favorite characters and I was so sad when Doris Belack left the show. Doris, rest in peace and all the best to your family.

I must have started watching OLTL in ’77 instead of ’78 then,
because I do remember Doris in the role of Anna.
I also remember her role in Tootsie…she had a couple of pretty funny lines as I recall.
Sad news on her passing.

my heart & prayers go out to her family………………

I watched OLTL during that time with my mother and remember Anna Wolek too. Vinny, Larry…..good stuff. I would see her on L&O and always remember OLTL. I thought she looked the same too! Amazing she was married 65 years and her husband passed away recently.
Thanks for posting.

I had a glimmer of hope that Frank Valentini might bring Anna and Larry back for a quick moment near the end, sadly that can’t happen now. She was one of the most memorable actors and characters from One Life to Live and despite later recasts the only Anna.

My condolences to Doris’ family. I remember her well on OLTL….she had great chemistry w/ her on screen hubby, Dr. Jim Craig. May she rest in peace.
Cathy

So sorry to hear that .She was great on that show and she will be missed.

What a great actress..she also played on Golden Girls as Dorothy’s sister…she will be missed….

Loved her! Those were some great years for OLTL. Still my favorite show.

Patrick Mulcahey OUT as General Hospital Co-Head Writer

After various reports surfaced, it has been confirmed that Patrick Mulcahey is out as the co-head writer of General Hospital. This is after a very short tenure of under five months.

Mulcahey was named to the position back in January of 2024 along with longtime GH writer Elizabeth Korte. They replaced the team of Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, who had been the head scribes of the long-running ABC daytime drama since 2019.

A source informed Soap Opera Digest that stories created by the co-head writing team of  Mulcahey/Korte team will air through mid-summer. However they added “There will be more news to share at a later date as to the composition of the new writing team.”

In addition, eagle-eyed soap fans have seen that in recent episodes former co-head writer, Chris Van Etten has been credited, as he is reportedly a breakdown writer with the show.

Soap Opera Network is reporting that Korte has assumed the head writing duties solely on her own at the moment, while Buzz blog initially reported Mulcahey’s exit.

We will have more on the GH writing team evolution in the days ahead.
