Recommendations
Reviews
- Very slight warp that makes no practical difference on an otherwise very good pressing. Whatever complaints I could have are limitations from a very old recording.
- My first real disappointment with a TP. Disc is flat but the sound is unbearable- distortion, cymbals going slightly stereo then back to mono, pops and noise. Sending it back and not even ordering a replacement -
- This pressing (at least my copy) is far from being up to the standards RTI has been known for. Right off the bat, the record appeared to have a lot of (light) scratches & showcased some warping.
I did 2 analytic listening sessions and it appears there are random pops & clicks all over the record (most of them are not loud but a few of them are the kind that makes you raise an eyebrow...).
I've only had a digital copy so my review of the mastering will be short: it sounds good to me. At least Kevin Gray did a good job.
I've had a couple of issues with RTI pressings lately and, to add insult to injury, i'm managing to snag more & more pristine GZ pressings (I'm looking at you David Crosby) so, as many have stated in the past few months, RTI, QRP & all these so-called premium plants aren't as good as they were. - Simply the best quality lp I own in my collection. Just can't get over how clean it plays. I'm so happy I made the purchase
- Quiet (but not silent) pressing. Beautiful, vibrant sound. Just listen to the flute and strings on B1! I do not hear muddy bass; on my system, the bass sounds distinct and clear. Baker's singing is absolutely beautiful. I agree with the previous reviewer that this record should be as widely appreciated as "Chet Baker Sings". It is impossible for me to understand someone who says they like Chet Baker's voice but they do not like this album! I agree with the previous reviewer who states that this album cover is ugly...and it is not particularly well reproduced. The images are blurry. This is a really nice record and I will listen to it often.
- Maybe my copy is defective. After 3 times being cleaned in the Degritter, i still have loud clicks and pops. Such a pity because soundwise is really good.
- This should be in as much demand as the Chet Baker Sings. I have a 1978 Japanese pressing that was my standard for this album and I will be comparing the two this afternoon. As I listen to this he is right here giving me my own private concert. My copy came clean with not a mark. It is nice but not up there with some of the great Tone Poets Katanga, Dance with Death etc. but mine is not muddy and is pretty crisp with the Hana SL mono cartridge. Very smooth and enjoyable! This album really isn’t supposed to knock your socks off just help you chill; and it does.
