Other: I am a parent of a current student and have another one who will attend in the fall. We could not be happier with our experience at UD! Our child is thriving academically, the classes are challenging him in ways he did not expect, but support is there if needed. The experiential learning opportunities, internships and study abroad programs are exceptional. Our son has enjoyed club and intramural sports, including tennis, volleyball and basketball. Family weekend is wonderful- so much to see and do, and it is an incredibly welcoming community. In fact, if you mention Dayton to just about anyone you will hear the word ‘community’ over and over, because it is true. Housing is unique- first year dorms are pretty typical, second year are either suites or on campus apartments, and third and fourth year students are eligible to live in the famous ‘neighborhood’, houses owned and maintained by the university. Sophomore: I have greatly enjoyed my time here at John Carroll. I am a sophomore exercise science major with a business and entrepreneurship minors. I am involved with campus ministry, I am a work study and I lead retreats. Along with that I play on the men's soccer team here and that experience has been amazing. Some of the things I like best about JCU is all of the activities that are going on, they are constantly having fun nights where you can have free food or win prizes and I think that helps bring the campus together. Alum: It was a great experience. The school is a small and cozy campus, each class is about a 3 to 5 minute walk away. Beautiful architecture, reminiscent of the 1850s. Catholic university, open minded to other religions and somewhat diverse student population. The professors are friendly-- they are passionate in their work and skilled in teaching different methods for students with variating learning styles. They're not just your professor, but also a mentor. Courses are typically recorded online, and the course website can also be used to access materials such as online books. Class sizes are typically small, about 16 students (And sizes may be larger for general courses), so it's perfect for those who academically thrive in closer-knit environments. Sophomore: I really enjoy the aspects of the Center for Faith and Justice at Xavier University. I found the most inclusivity there and joined many of their programs my first year and now hold a board position for my favorite campus club through the CFJ, Alternative Breaks. However, I would like to see more community within the different ethnic and racial groups on campus, as sometimes it feels like each club for diversity separates just as much as it supports diverse identities. This can cause contention rather than harmony on club collaborations, and the student activities council does not offer a lot of events that interest students. The food is mostly only American cuisine and does not cater to the different ethnic food preferences student and faculty have. Other: I actually am in high school and am not fully enrolled at Franciscan University of Steubenville. However, I took two online duel enrollment classes with this school and am interested in going there in the fall of 2025. The classes I took with Franciscan were Theology and Sociology. I definitely learned a lot from both and the teachers were very helpful. However, I do not enjoy online classes and prefer in-person classes with human interaction. Senior: My time at Ursuline College was incredibly rewarding. Senior: My experience with Notre Dame College has been wonderful! They have one of the most immersive I.E.P programs I have seen a higher educational school provide. Their program is called the Thrive Center. Classes are small and personal, you will always get to know your professor on a one to one basis and also get to know your classmates. At Notre Dame College you are not a number like at other big schools. Most of the student body is athletes but that’s okay! Sophomore: Overall, I've liked Mount Carmel College of Nursing. Some pros are the small school environment and small class sizes. You really get to know your classmates because everyone in your grade takes the same classes together. It's also easy to contact your professors and get help when needed. The area around Mount Carmel isn't great but I feel safe around campus because of the security measures the college has in place. Senior: I'm a CCP student and this is my fourth semester going to Chatfield. Being completely new to college I found it to be a wonderful first time experience and three semesters later I still share that same viewpoint. The teachers and administrators want to see you succeed and they try their best to help you. The teachers encourage you to ask questions and if you aren't getting something they are more than willing to help you. The administrators are also very helpful and do their best to clear up any problems and concerns you have. If a particular administrator can't assist you then they make sure to get another administrator that can. They don't just leave you hanging to try to figure it out on your own. As far as the class sizes go, they are relatively small. This is one of the biggest reasons why like Chatfield. I previously attended a large high school.
