The Mount Vernon City School District is hosting a parent workshop via Zoom on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 6 to 7 p.m. The webinar, Pathways to Healing, will provide information about navigating substance abuse and mental wellbeing. Students from Benjamin Turner Academy and Pennington School busted their moves on the dance floor for the Rockin’ the Spectrum dance at Pennington on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The dance was held to celebrate children with unique needs in honor of Autism Acceptance Month.
Patrice Wallace-Moore graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1981 and went on to have a successful career in mental health and addiction services. Ms. Wallace-Moore also served as the head coach of the Mount Vernon Knights varsity girls basketball team.

Dr. Pauline Pearce, Mount Vernon High School Principal (Superintendent for the Day):
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am writing to inform you about an incident that occurred at Williams School this afternoon where a flame erupted in a classroom. The room was immediately evacuated with minimal disruption to the rest of the building. Emergency personnel were immediately called to the scene, and all necessary precautions were taken to ensure the safety of everyone in the building.
Leadership requires the ability to make decisions quickly, and on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Mount Vernon High School Principal Dr. Pauline Pearce served as superintendent for the day and had the responsibility of making those decisions. Dr. Pearce was the third participant in Acting Superintendent Dr. K. Veronica Smith’s “Superintendent for a Day” series.
