- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsJohn David WashingtonRobert PattinsonElizabeth DebickiArmed with only the word "Tenet," and fighting for the survival of the entire world, CIA operative, The Protagonist, journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a global mission that unfolds beyond real time.8.4 (8.9)
Packing the kind of expansive and mind-blowing concepts you would expect from a Nolan production, 'Tenet' makes second viewing a necessity to fully comprehend and appreciate how its loopy 'inversion' concept brings its various timelines together.
There's not much room for a breather throughout its 150 minute runtime, but it lacks the finesse of a truly top end Nolan production; at points lacking the flow or plausibility Nolan tends to establish in his other mind-bending thrillers. Yet, viewed a second time round through the lens of a Bond-esque espionage movie, it becomes the coolest blockbuster in years - even if its central 'inversion' concept is essentially the extent of its premise.

His true passion is jazz. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul.8.6 (8.5)
Here to save your heart and mind from the doom and gloom of this difficult year, Pixar's latest is their best since 2015's 'Inside Out'. 'Soul' is a mesmerising lesson in living. It is an animated feature that will challenge your core beliefs on how to live your best life (I'm still thinking about it days later), suggesting that perhaps we should realise that it is the little moments that make life wonderful.

A great way to bring in the new year - back to Richie's gritty best with a film to rival his original greats.
PR 8.1 | HP 180 | HR 8.3 | OV 1 | FV 2020 - DirectorSam MendesStarsDean-Charles ChapmanGeorge MacKayDaniel MaysApril 6th, 1917. As an infantry battalion assembles to wage war deep in enemy territory, two soldiers are assigned to race against time and deliver a message that will stop 1,600 men from walking straight into a deadly trap.8.4 (8.5)
An emotional, shocking tour-de-force of the war sub-genre. The one-shot style of direction is often jarring, and creates one of the most genuine cinematic experiences of war you will experience. - DirectorAdil El ArbiBilall FallahStarsWill SmithMartin LawrenceVanessa HudgensMiami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett must face off against a mother-and-son pair of drug lords who wreak vengeful havoc on their city.7.6 (7.0)
A solid, thrilling and often surprising sequel which reinvigorates the franchise with new faces and a well-written story. It pulls at your heart strings, enjoys playing sequel to the original two but most importantly has heart. - DirectorPatty JenkinsStarsGal GadotChris PineKristen WiigDiana must contend with a colleague, and with a businessman whose desire for extreme wealth sends the world down a path of destruction, after an ancient artifact that grants wishes goes missing.7.1 (7.8)
It doesn't quite reach the heights its premise had the potential to, particularly in relation to its 80's setting, but it succeeds as a creative adventure and worthy follow-up to its origin. - DirectorJason WolinerStarsSacha Baron CohenMaria BakalovaTom HanksBorat returns to America from Kazakhstan to America, this time to reveal more about the American culture, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the political elections.7.2 (7.7)
Nowhere close to the original but just the kind of satire we need right now in the dire times of COVID. The story it tells is a good one - well justified, and by the end coming together with a surprising twist. Throughout, it lives right on the edge, where you would expect and hope it would. My only critique is that while the situations are hilarious, the laugh-out-loud moments are few and far between. - DirectorTony CervoneStarsWill ForteMark WahlbergJason IsaacsScooby and the gang face their most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this dogpocalypse, the gang discovers that Scooby has an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.6.5 (7.1)
A super-heroic yet simple story of friendship - its just not really Scooby-Doo. I like that they attempted to alter the status quo and try something new - and its clear that the creators are fans - its just not really right without a mystery to solve. Its modernised, often funny, and will surprise you. Whether that is a good thing is up to you. Imagine Scooby-Doo became a superhero is the gist you should know before going in. - DirectorCathy YanStarsMargot RobbieRosie PerezMary Elizabeth WinsteadAfter splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroines Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.7.4 (7.8)
A brilliantly violent, super fun film that is as manic as it starring woman Harley Quinn.
Margot Robbie, as you would expect, completely embodies the role and has an absolute ball with it. The whole cast look like they're having a great time as part of this bonkers world, particularly Ewan McGregor's villainous turn as the loose cannon Black Mask - who has probably one of the most creatively nasty deaths you'll ever see. The creativity in the violence will make you quiver and squint but also laugh at the setup - particularly with the cocaine scene and the third act in the funhouse.
As for the Birds of Prey - this isn't really their film, but their introduction. I enjoyed their backstories and I'm looking forward to seeing where their story goes with future instalments. Anyone saying this is worse than Suicide Squad don't have a clue what they're talking about. - DirectorBong Joon HoStarsSong Kang-hoLee Sun-kyunCho Yeo-jeongGreed and class discrimination threaten the newly-formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.8.6 (8.2)
The most accurate depiction of this film comes from a review I saw before going in. "You expect Parasite to be one thing, but it mutates into something else." That's all you need or should know before witnessing this masterpiece. For a non-Korean viewer the subtitles can at first be a bit much to keep up with but as you become accustomed to it you become drawn in, further and further into the mass of genres the film crosses, and the fitting message about social class divides it conveys. - DirectorStephen GaghanStarsRobert Downey Jr.Antonio BanderasMichael SheenA physician who can talk to animals embarks on an adventure to find a legendary island with a young apprentice and a crew of strange pets.6.1 (7.8)
A missed opportunity perhaps, but still a fun family ride nonetheless. Doesn't deserve a portion of the hate that's being directed at it. In fact, giving another director and Downey free reign, I'd be up for a sequel. - DirectorDan ScanlonStarsTom HollandChris PrattJulia Louis-DreyfusIn a magical world full of technological advances, elven brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot set out on an adventure to resurrect their late father for a day.8.0 (7.6)
An uplifting tale about the power of positivity and perspective. While you may not think much of it from its trailers, the film itself should not be understated.
PR 7.9 | HP 245 | HR 8.0 | OV 2 | FV 2020 - DirectorJeff FowlerStarsBen SchwartzJames MarsdenJim CarreyAfter discovering a small, blue, fast hedgehog, a small-town police officer must help him defeat an evil genius who wants to do experiments on him.6.3 (6.5)
It has heart but its really for younger kids and doesn't really carry any thoughtful appeal for adults. The best thing about it is how it sets up a possible 'Segaverse'. Its most impressive feat is that it truly listened to its fans in terms of including more game references, not to mention fixing that awful initial design. Carrey is fantastic in his role - it really is the kind of character perfect for his wacky talents. - DirectorJosh BooneStarsMaisie WilliamsAnya Taylor-JoyCharlie HeatonFive young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.6.2 (7.0)
Showing glimpses of what it could have achieved if not for a turbulent post production, 'The New Mutants' presents Marvel's first endeavour into horror which is more potential than success.
It creates some interesting characters, in fact its biggest achievement is the relationship established between our lead and Maisie Williams character who is a big highlight. However that is about where the positivity ends. Its editing (understandably, but frustratingly) is messy and halts any sort of flow throughout its runtime, while its big reveals are bland and uninspired with little-to-no expansion on the facilities aim until the end, while its power scenes are a little light for a superhero flick. Somewhere amid all the scrappy-ness, there is a good film to be found. With a little more surprise, connection to other films (particularly Logan) and less holding back on the horror elements, it could have been revolutionary in creating a true horror-superhero blend; sadly it winds up more forgettable than pioneering. - DirectorPippa EhrlichJames ReedStarsCraig FosterTom FosterA filmmaker forges an unusual friendship with an octopus living in a South African kelp forest, learning as the animal shares the mysteries of her world.8.1
A relaxing, other-worldly documentary feature that will encourage you to consider these beautiful animals in a more compassionate light. - DirectorBrandon TrostStarsSeth RogenSarah SnookMolly EvensenAn immigrant worker at a pickle factory is accidentally preserved for 100 years and wakes up in modern-day Brooklyn.5.4 (7.6)
It takes some surprising risks, not many of which fully pay off. Not your typical Rogen comedy - it tries to be something more but other than a solid double performance from Rogen, it doesn't achieve much. - DirectorDestin Daniel CrettonStarsMichael B. JordanJamie FoxxBrie LarsonWorld-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson works to free a wrongly condemned death row prisoner.7.9 (7.5)
A powerful drama which brings to life the terrors of an often unjust system - one which rewards results over truth. It can sometimes lean into its themes overtly, but the performances outshine some momentary lapses in writing to make for a memorable cinema experience. - DirectorNicolas PesceStarsTara WestwoodJunko BaileyDavid Lawrence BrownA house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death.6.0 (6.5)
Not as bad as its made out to be but the watered down scares and the seen-it-all-before story disappoint what is an interesting structure crossing multiple timelines. - DirectorMax BarbakowStarsAndy SambergCristin MiliotiJ.K. SimmonsStuck in a time loop, two wedding guests develop a budding romance while living the same day over and over again.8.5 (6.7)
'Palm Springs' is officially the comedy to save the summer. A great addition to the lost rom-com genre that doesn't feel forced, cheesy or ridiculous (even with the insane premise). Instead, it feels genuine, creative and heartfelt - I'd recommend it to anyone. - DirectorJosh TrankStarsTom HardyLinda CardelliniMatt DillonAfter a 10 year stint, former bootlegger and notorious criminal Al Capone starts to show signs of dementia, forcing him to face the demons of his violent past.6.0 (8.0)
Not the complete disaster it's made out to be. Its psychiatric elements are jarring - so defining what's real and what is not can be difficult to grasp at points. But that becomes more of an achievement for this exploration of the deterioration of a once top gangster - who is now zombie-esque. At points it feels more like a horror film than anything distinctly related to Al Capone. It is a shame, with Hardy in the leading role of such as interesting character, that there is no cohesion to the story its trying to tell. I'm never sure what to think of Hardy in these kind of roles but there is no question he goes all in with a method performance. It is a misunderstood film for sure but by no means terrible. - DirectorLeigh WhannellStarsElisabeth MossOliver Jackson-CohenHarriet DyerWhen Cecilia's abusive ex takes his own life and leaves her his fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. A story which draws you into its premise and sickening reality. Its surprisingly humorous at points, with fantastic lead performances and sense of uneasiness throughout. - DirectorSeverin FialaVeronika FranzStarsRiley KeoughJaeden MartellLia McHughA soon-to-be stepmom is snowed in with her fiancé's two children at a remote holiday village. Just as relations begin to thaw between the trio, some strange and frightening events take place.8.0 (7.5)
An original horror - similar in tone to the twisty tales from A24. Its spooky and hard to figure out. Is it a paranormal film? Is she a demon? Are they dead? It is a quite masterfully shot, executed and scored film crossing multiple horror sub-genres with devastatingly effective consequences. Light on jump scares in favour of more intricately developed and earned fear, 'The Lodge' creates masterful terror of just what it feels like to be an outsider. - DirectorAaron SchneiderStarsTom HanksElisabeth ShueStephen GrahamSeveral months after the U.S. entry into World War II, an inexperienced U.S. Navy commander must lead an Allied convoy being stalked by a German submarine wolf pack.6.3 (7.2)
A film about Tom Hanks looking through binoculars. Well told but a little too short to be considered deep or anything other than average. Feels like nothing really happens, not epic or overwhelming at all. Just staged. - DirectorGerard BushChristopher RenzStarsJanelle MonáeEric LangeJena MaloneSuccessful author Veronica Henley finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it's too late.(7.1)
- DirectorAaron SorkinStarsEddie RedmayneAlex SharpSacha Baron CohenThe story of 7 people on trial stemming from various charges surrounding the uprising at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois.8.0 (7.5)
An emotionally resonant, worthy Oscar contender which explores its topic accurately and forcefully. From the second act on, you will be glued to the screen; enraged, frustrated and appalled that the scenes unfolding are based in history. Show stopping performances all round make this biographic epic a cert this awards season. - DirectorGavin RotheryStarsTheo JamesStacy MartinRhona Mitra2038: George Almore is working on a true human-equivalent AI. His latest prototype is almost ready. This sensitive phase is also the riskiest. Especially as he has a goal that must be hidden at all costs.8.1 (6.7)
A slowly unfolding sci-fi gem. Its creative and original premise is elevated by its thoughtful writing and fascinating concept. 'Archive' comes packed with a message and the question of what would happen when AI reaches emotional awareness; when we can no longer treat them like machines. It is thought-provoking film which reaches emotional depth with a gorgeous twist ending to finish. - DirectorNiki CaroStarsLiu YifeiDonnie YenGong LiTo keep her ailing father from serving in the Imperial Army, a fearless young woman disguises herself as a man and battles northern invaders in China.7.0 (7.5)
Nowhere near as bad as its IMDB rating would suggest. It is at times a little over-the-top and poorly written as the majority of Disney-remakes are nowadays but it does try to do what the others haven't and actually expand on the classic tale and take it in new directions. Its action is executed excellently, and with a darker tone If you are a fan of the original, don't expect a sing along. Expect a re-imagining with a somewhat darker tone and fantastic action scenes. And ultimately, please go in with an open mind. - DirectorTim HillStarsTim HillClancy BrownBill FagerbakkeAfter SpongeBob's beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to the Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home.6.2 (6.5)
The oddest interpretation of SpongeBob yet. More like a supersized episode than a distinct movie, it could have achieved something new by focussing on them all meeting at summer camp. Instead, it gets weird (or hip) with Keanu and an overall odd storyline. It does carry an important message about friendship though - its highlight. - DirectorBen FalconeStarsMelissa McCarthyJames CordenBobby CannavaleWhen an all-powerful Superintelligence chooses to study average Carol Peters, the fate of the world hangs in the balance. - DirectorSam HargraveStarsChris HemsworthBryon LerumRyder LerumTyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary, embarks on the most deadly extraction of his career when he's enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.7.3 (6.8)
A layered performance from a fantastic Hemsworth elevates 'Extraction' from a simple action hero flick to one that you should definitely watch. That, in combination with the phenomenal stunt work directed by a previous stunt man, make for a enjoyable ride, with depth. - DirectorAntonio CamposStarsBill SkarsgårdTom HollandBanks RepetaSinister characters converge around a young man devoted to protecting those he loves in a postwar backwoods town teeming with corruption and brutality.7.8 (7.5)
A dark, deceptive film just shy of greatness. Its slow burn is ravishing and spotlessly executed - its only deterrent is its predictability. Though the 'full circle' element to the story is at its core fantastic, its creates a lack of surprise or volatility as it heads toward the finish line. - DirectorBenny SafdieJosh SafdieStarsAdam SandlerJulia FoxIdina MenzelWith his debts mounting and angry collectors closing in, a fast-talking New York City jeweler risks everything in hope of staying afloat and alive.7.5 (7.5)
Not your typical Sandler film - and its not for everyone. Its a solid enough film, but some of its sequences will makes its viewers uneasy. Some will feel it adds to the tension and true difficulties of gambling addiction, some will just feel like they're blood pressure has went through the roof over the same damn gem he should never have given away in the first place. - DirectorJohannes RobertsStarsSophie NélisseCorinne FoxxBrianne TjuTwo sisters diving in a ruined underwater city quickly learn they've entered the territory of the deadliest shark species in the claustrophobic labyrinth of submerged caves.6.3 (6.4)
Not bad, but nowhere close to the first. It presents some interesting situations, but its poor acting and unconvincing shark undermines its story's efforts to make it truly thrilling or terrifying, as intended. - DirectorTodd HaynesStarsMark RuffaloAnne HathawayTim RobbinsA corporate defense attorney takes on an environmental lawsuit against a chemical company that exposes a lengthy history of pollution.7.3 (7.5)
A solid, if not too thrilling story about the reality of major corporations and their power over the world. I just wish there was more definition to the supporting cast as with a bit more to do the film could've been a whole lot more memorable. - DirectorRose GlassStarsMorfydd ClarkCaoilfhionn DunneJennifer EhleA pious nurse becomes dangerously obsessed with saving the soul of her dying patient.8.0 (7.3)
So that was an experience. A real surprise of well made, thought out horror. Don't expect a terrifying jump scare infested time at the movies but instead a slow burning religious psychological deterioration of our protagonist.
You can interpret it for yourself based on your personal religious point-of-view, but it is of my opinion that this 'Maud' had essentially, lost the plot and we lay witness to a regular woman, so traumatised from an event in her life, slowly descending into a God respecting madness. It's base in reality is what makes it particularly effective...maybe this is how all Saint's seemed to their surrounding persons...

Upon arriving, she comes to question everything she thought she knew about him, and herself.4.9 (6.4)
A completely useless film which never comes close to its potential. Full disclosure, I haven't read the book. From the trailer I thought I would be treated to a mind-bending thriller. What ensued was one of the most ridiculous, dragged out, convoluted, arrogantly-dialogued, two hour films I have seen. On reading after it finally ended, I discovered that on paper, what unfolds is FANTASTIC and right up my ally - it just makes no attempt to explain the whole thing as a dream sequence, despite obvious fantasy-like clues it just comes across ridiculous. And the less said about that dancing scene the better. Yes, it highlights a man looking back with regret at the life he didn't lead and the choices he didn't make - but where was the justification or acknowledgement that was actually the case? Instead we are forced into a ridiculous ending which completes no arc, nor coming full circle with its purpose. - DirectorTaika WaititiStarsRoman Griffin DavisThomasin McKenzieScarlett JohanssonA young German boy in the Hitler Youth whose hero and imaginary friend is the country's dictator is shocked to discover that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home.(7.4)
- DirectorRobert EggersStarsRobert PattinsonWillem DafoeValeriia KaramanTwo lighthouse keepers try to maintain their sanity while living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.7.4 (7.0)
Weird would be an understatement. Not my type of movie - not for general audiences really - all mystical style, gibberish chatter without all that much happening. There's an audience out there for it - perhaps those who enjoy the drama of a play or ballet; what's true for all is that it's a maddening account of being driven to madness. - DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsFerdia ShawLara McDonnellJosh GadArtemis Fowl, a young criminal prodigy, hunts down a secret society of fairies to find his missing father.(6.1)

Brown's performance as Enola Holmes is impeccable - playing the role so naturally, she embodies it as her own kind of Hermonie Granger in this Sherlock world. Let loose in the planned sequels she will make this a tentpole for Netflix. Despite an underwhelming story that is just a little too dark as the fun dwindles toward its third act, the vibrant display means I will certainly be tuning in for the sequels. - DirectorChris SandersStarsHarrison FordOmar SyCara GeeA sled dog struggles for survival in the wilds of the Yukon.(6.4)

Actually worth a watch - it matches the horror of waking with well-placed comedy. It doesn't take itself too seriously, but it makes a star out of its lead (once it reveals who they are). It has similar vibes as The Purge - I can see them taking it in interesting directions if they were able to work on sequels - sadly its success was going to rely on word-of-mouth, and with its time in cinemas only a week, no one really knows about it... - DirectorMarc MundenStarsDixie EgerickxRichard HansellDavid VerreyAn orphaned girl discovers a magical garden hidden at her strict uncle's estate.(7.0)

It only becomes such a let down when you consider its positives: It's stylish, often funny and the acting is immense from the whole cast. There's a strong message in there somewhere, it just becomes muddled by its more 'artistic' impulses. - DirectorLorcan FinneganStarsImogen PootsDanielle RyanMolly McCannA young couple looking for the perfect home find themselves trapped in a mysterious labyrinth-like neighborhood of identical houses.3.6 (7.1)
Easily one of the worst films I have ever seen. The plot goes nowhere, makes no sense and doesn't offer any explanation or justification for the 90 minute run-time. It thinks it is a sophisticated sci-fi/horror mashup, sadly its just a dissapointment. - DirectorDee ReesStarsAnne HathawayBen AffleckRosie PerezA veteran D.C. journalist loses the thread of her own narrative when a guilt-propelled errand for her father thrusts her from byline to unwitting subject in the very story she's trying to break. A wholly original concept which delves into the weird all too often. Its frustration is that its purpose is never fully explained - add an extra half hour to explain why it exists and you have a film. - DirectorJanicza BravoStarsTaylour PaigeRiley KeoughNicholas BraunA stripper named Zola embarks on a wild road trip to Florida.(7.2)

An essential watch not just for Attenborough fans, but the entire population of the world. Through his unique experience, David Attenborough demonstrates the changes to our planet he's witnessed in his lifetime. A desperate plea for our generation to be the ones who save the world from the verge of catastrophe. - DirectorBrett PierceDrew T. Feels like you are watching a drive-in movie within another film - though at feature length. Creepy, with no unnecessary jump scares for the sake. The story isn't quite gripping despite some terrifying moments. - DirectorDavid CreedStarsTamaryn PayneEmily WyattSian AbrahamsFour lifelong friends head to a remote lodge for a weekend of fun. Full of great action set pieces but without enough substance to actually go anywhere. It is a stylish film with no ambition and an over the top score.
