The Challenge” universe is expanding and thriving. Season 39 of the hit reality competition show, “The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion,” created by Bunim/Murray Productions, will premiere on MTV on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. ET.

This season will pit 24 returning contenders, one of who will to take home their first victory. In order to do so, they won’t only compete against each other but also will face 10 rotating “Challenge” legends in surprise eliminations each week. Vets include last season’s winners Tori Deal and Devin Walker, Cara Maria Sorbello, who hasn’t been on the series since 2019’s “War of the Worlds 2,” and five-time champion CT Tamburello.

In the end, only one of the contenders can take home the win. There are many familiar faces in the bunch, including Olivia Kaiser, who suffered a shocking Season 38 injury and Tula “Big T” Fazakerley, who became beloved on her past seasons of “War of the Worlds 2,” “Total Madness,” “Double Agents” and “Spies, Lies and Allies.”

It’s been more than six months since a season of “The Challenge” has aired on MTV. Season 38, titled “Ride or Dies,” ran from October 2022 to March 2023. “The Challenge: World Championship” aired on Paramount+. Currently, Season 2 of “The Challenge: USA” is airing on CBS.

“The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion,” executive produced by Julie Pizzi, Emer Harkin, Dan Caster and Leanne Mucci, will roll out globally across MTV’s international networks in over 165 countries. Fred Birckhead, Micah Kehoe-Thompson, Skye Topic and Irene Young co-executive produce. TJ Lavin returns as host.

MTV will introduce the new cast in “The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion: Countdown Begins,” a launch special airing Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m.
