They then announced a tour called Just the Right Kind of Crazy, for which they travelled through the Midwest and eastern US, after which they released the single “From the Ground Up”, intended to be the first single of their sophomore album.

They also collaborated with Kelly Clarkson for the single “Keeping Score”, and released “Dan + Shay (The Vocals).” Dan stated in an interview that some of his influences include Goo Goo Dolls and the Foo Fighters, and he also enjoys the music of Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, and Rascal Flatts.

In his personal life, it’s known that Smyers married Abby Law in 2017, after being in a relationship for several years, and engaged for a year – he proposed while they were on vacation in Hawaii.
