Del Norte High School Reviews
Rating 4.06 out of 5 449 reviews
Del Norte has a phenomenal set of counselors and staff. The counselors are always there to support you via walk-in or appointment, and they always find ways to help wherever they can; whether that be college applications, troubles with peers, or issues with a schedule. They're all super sweet, understanding, and phenomenal individuals who have stuck with me since day one. The new principal is phenomenal, and a wonderful speaker. He's always willing to help and will go out of his way to help students with whatever they need, especially students who request name/gender changes in transcripts/gradebooks. The staff is also very good about resolving problems, they always make sure to listen to all sides of the story and talk through it. I will say however that Del Norte is very academically competitive, which leads to a lot of tension in the air & between students. On the positive side of this, Del Norte does a decent job at providing mental health services, though more could be better. :)
I think Del Norte is a pretty good school overall. It is very academically competitive and it provides many academically rigorous courses. The teachers there generally are nice and good at their jobs, with the exception of a few. Also, I know that the school lunch is free and it's the same district-wide, but it's still pretty bad.
Pros: Extremely academically disciplined, high test scores, grades, and general academic success, really fun football games, offers almost every standard sport a high school should offer, amazingly talented band/orchestra program, lackluster theater program (both are severely underfunded but are incredibly involved and fun), resources for nearly every kind of kid, SUPER motivated and teachers push their students just the right amount, the campus is incredibly diverse
Cons: The food sucks (as does all PUSD food), mental health awareness is taboo within the school community despite faculty trying their best to make it standard, the people are friendly yet unsettling and hard to fit in with, IEP/special education system is not as supported as it should be, academic pressure is pretty crazy, standards are way too high, kids are sometimes super pretentious, teachers are a hit or miss
