Duval High School Reviews
Rating 3.24 out of 5 498 reviews
Duval is filled with immigrants and biased against black American students. There is no support, and the majority of the teachers are overwhelmed or incompetent. The principal's focus is safety. In general education classes, there is no rigor. In the AEAT program the course requirements are high, but the teachers are not able to teach at this level. They load information into Canvas, but don't teach, record grades timely, communicate with parents or listen to students when they ask for help. The teachers are not even able to write a syllabus with completion dates, so that students can plan. Many of the students suffer from depression and anxiety. If you want your child to learn and be okay, plan on having private tutors, medication and a therapist for your child.
I have had a mixed experience at this school. On the positive side, the administration is great and very supportive. They are always willing to listen and help with any issues or concerns. The school itself is also well-maintained and has a lot of potential.
However, the student body is a different story. Unfortunately, many students are not serious about their education and are heavily influenced by peer pressure. This can create a distracting and disruptive learning environment.
One area that I would like to see improvement in is security. While the school has a secure entrance, the overall security measures are lacking. This can be a concern for students and staff, especially in today's world.
Overall, I think this school has a lot of potential, but it needs to address the issues with student behavior and security. If these issues are addressed, I believe the school could be even better and provide a more productive and safe learning environment for all students.
