Weathers to Arthur, if his debt is absolved

Second Lieutenant J. John Weathers, also known as Snow Goose, is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.

History[]

Background[]

J. John Weathers was a soldier who was stationed at Fort Wallace. At some point, he ran into financial difficulties, which resulted in him taking a loan from Leopold Strauss. He would later desert from the Army.

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2[]

Due to the fact that J. John Weathers had not paid back his loan, Strauss sends Arthur Morgan to confront him at Three Sisters. Arthur encounters him by the roadside, trying to repair his broken wagon. When confronted, Weathers asks Arthur to help him fix the wagon and says that he has no money, but can instead give his supplies meant for winter. Arthur refuses to help with the wagon but, before anything else can happen, the two are suddenly interrupted by US Army soldiers, who come to kill Weathers for desertion.

The two manage to kill the soldiers, although the wagon is set ablaze during the fighting. Weathers then calls out for his lover, telling her that it is safe for her to come out. When she appears, Arthur notices that she is Native American, and seemingly pregnant, causing him to regret not helping Weathers to fix the wagon. With his supplies destroyed in the fire, Weathers offers Arthur her silver locket instead, saying that is all they have. At this point, the player can either accept it or absolve the debt and decline it. Whichever option is chosen, Weathers then leaves with his wife.

Arthur's interactions with both J. John Weathers and Mrs. Londonderry ultimately prompt him to expel Strauss from the gang, in revenge for the suffering he had caused for debtors such as Weathers. Additionally, if the debt is absolved Weathers's final words to Arthur can be one of the lines he reflects upon during his last ride, if his Honor is high.
