The original Johnny's was a late-night, good-time Carlton classic. A neon pool hall. It's glowing sign drew musicians, artists, gangsters and students who mingles at all hour. It wasn't always savoury but it was never dull. Our new rooftop incarnation of Johnny's has retained this sense of fun but swapped the notorious pool hall vibe for amazing 360 degree views and the sophisticated ambiance of a rooftop party in Rome. Classic and house cocktails, easy drinking wines & beers and a menu of Italy's greatest hits.

    What venue does not have tomato sauce for fries. Staff were disinterested, rude and had attitude. They did not want to help at all despite Saturday penalty rates. I booked a low table and was given a high table. We had to ask to be moved and squish into a small circle table for four people. Our drinks order was served incorrectly - but at least they gave us the incorrect drinks for free.

    All was wonderful but the bill was wrong but they fixed it when it was pointed out to them. When this happens you always wonder if it was on purpose.

    This rooftop has been favourite for a few years now on almost a weekly basis and this was my first time back to this place since the reopening and I was quite disappointed. The renovations have made The place feels quite cramped, which is a shame as this was a great venue with spectacular views. Bar service is now very slow, took 30mins for a spicy margarita ams as for the food, the menu selection is good but very disappointing that they bring the pizzas to the table uncut, they provide a knife but when I order pizza I don’t expect to have to cut it, especially not in Carlton!!!

    Pizza was extremely oily and fell apart when picked up. Anchovy pizza was served with no anchovies. Staff stood and talked together and ignored us at the bar.

    The table was far too small for 4 people to enjoy dinner. When questioned no alternative was given. They failed to deliver a pizza to our table. The mushroom pizza was flavourless. We all added salt. Reluctant to return.

    Food was excellent, service not the best but it says heaters and the heaters definitely weren’t working that night it was freezing

    My only complaint is they need higher glass walls to block the strong gusts of wind. It already cost them a lot as a few glasses were smashed throughout the night. Never mind the safety hazard broken glass creates too...

    Service was a bit slow. Our gift card had expired although there was no date on the card to indicate this. My understanding is that it is law that all gift cards have a minimum of three years validity so perhaps your software needs to be updated to recognise this. The issue was resolved without much fuss. I have never drunk a more expensive glass of chardonnay in my life but I did enjoy it! However, the ambience is great and we will come back.
