Good place to work while it lasted

I felt a very valuable Respected and trusted member of staff. I got on well with everyone and enjoyed my work and felt committed and loyal to BHS, consequently I was devastated when the store closed when I was one of the last members of staff to help pull the shutters down.. I now look forward to finding another job with the same job satisfaction and a friendly team to work with.

Pros

Staff Discount

Cons

Not enough hours available to work

Varied and interesting work

No such thing as a typical day at work, I could be installing a new theme display one day, painting room dividers the next or working a delivery. The Knaresborough store had a smaller team so multitasking was a must. The thing i enjoyed the most was the the theme installations. I had time to go over the guidelines, plan and prep beforehand. The hardest thing about working here was the work/life balance. They were long days and very tiring.

Fun and Friendly

Typical day would be to make sure the store was ready to open so customers could shop in it. I'd then serve customers and help them when they needed it. Management were great and the staff was even better, everyone worked together and made the day easier! I enjoyed every minute here.

Great people to work with

A fast paced highly pressured environment to work in. Strategic direction was lacking which was difficult to manage the team morale and performance. Team working was key to my division's success which was the best part of the job.

Pros

Cons

Long hours

A good place to work and meet new people

A typical working day at Bhs would be to recover any messy stock on the shop floor whilst also checking on the lighting area and going on the till. Working part time for two years was useful but also challenging at times as there are situations which you encounter which you would never of before but it is those situations that improve you as a person.

good place to work

I was employed for the same company for 9 years and went through all aspects of the companies procedures, starting in the coffee shop and ending up in the cash office, during this time it was handy that I could jump into any position throughout the store if we were short handed, the staff were all very close and worked well together, there was times when things got a bit stressful but we pulled together and overcame it. It was a sad day for all of us when the company closed down.

Very friendly place to work. Lovely people. It was like a large family and will be sorely missed

Very busy and very varied. Every day was different. I learnt many things during my time there including customer service skills, cash handling , security, health and computer skills, how to work in a team and how to be a good leader. The management team were always professional and very easy to get on with. They were very supportive to their staff and easily approached My co-workers were very friendly. We worked as one large team. They were supportive and fun to work with. There wasn't a hard part of the job. Every single aspect of it was enjoyable.

great place to work.

started off on 30 hours then went full time in April. everyone was friendly and great to work with. get in and we would have a team talk before shop opened with the manager. work a deliver if we had one in while helping out on tills if got busy. making sure the sale floor was clear and tidy for the customers. learn a lot while i was there and ended up looking after bathroom and home departments. learnt how to book in the click and collect parcels for customers, phone them and booked them out when the customer came in to pick up.

Pros

discount card off everything in store different %off.

Overworked, understaffed, making the most of little

A typical day at work involved starting off with a group meeting involving all starting at that time, e.g. 9am/2pm to go over daily goals and areas of interest - admittedly a great way to start a working shift. Unfortunately, work following consisted of being rushed around by management to cover the overall lack of staff. Despite this, working in such an unexpectedly hectic paced environment provided me with the circumstances to adapt and react to ever changing scenarios and develop a wide range of skills to be accessed at a moments notice. My co-workers were a great team and came together when needed to tackle a difficult situation and revolved around together where possible to most efficiently lessen the stress on each other. I'd have to say the hardest part of the job was just the sheer hectic activity, constant customers is great for business but without the workers to greet them it doesn't fare well overall. In addition, each end of the day involved being required to stay post finishing hours by up to an hour or two to finish end-of-the-day activities, such as recovery. However, most enjoyably was the few workers there was that came together to make it enjoyable where we could. Overall I'm grateful, I learned a lot and learned to adapt which has helped considerably and prepared me for future working endeavors.

Pros

Great co-workers

Cons

Being made to stay post-hours.

Supportive and progressive workplace

My day would start at 8am doing replemishment / deliveries, reading our briefing note, then from 9am I would do customer service, also rotated onto tills and covering the fitting room through the day. I would also take part in implementing promotions and sales when needed and merchandising new seasons lines when they arrived into store. I learned how to run my own department, work as part of a team and working on all departments gain alot of product knowledge which helped my customer service. Management were supportive in keeping us updated with sales targets and company information. My co-workers and i supported each other working as a team when implementing store layouts, promotions, sales and customer service as well as deliveries. The hardest part of the job would sometimes be trying to reach our targets for recruting new customers to our store cards. The most enjoyable part was meeting new people, and seeing our regular customers and a satisfied customer. .

Productive, Fun and Memorable

A typical day at work would entitle working with your team to achieve the targets set for that day. The things I learnt where to work together as a team to achieve goals. I learnt that I have the potential to advance in the workplace and create really good relations with my colleagues. The management at BHS could sometimes be a little lazy. Some of the managers did not communicate with their team which caused issues, the co-workers helped make the day enjoyable and a comfortable environment.

Pros

Co-workers

Cons

Lack of support

A fantastic place to work morale in the store is great we truly work as a team. Management very approachable

My typical day at work would be 2 hours tills, 1hour fitting room and 1 hour recovery. To think outside the box on many occasions. The management at BHS are great, very friendly and approachable. Team BHS was our name, good workers and good friends great morale. The hardest part of my job was encouragint the public to take out a Barclay reward card. I love working with the public.

A Great Team to work with

Most days would start by sorting delivery and putting out on to the shop floor, merchandising any new stock into the department, implementing any price changes, giving help to customers on the shop floor, fitting room and on the tills. I was very competent at using the tills for purchases, refunds, exchanges and for completing customer online orders. My favourite part of the job was doing moves and re merchandising the women's wear departments, following company guidelines, it gave me great satisfaction seeing fresh new displays. Also I ran the Christmas Shop for the last 4 years which I enjoyed as it was a completely different type of merchandising, it was hard work but very satisfying. I worked as part of a great team (family), we worked well as individuals but also as a team and supported each other when we needed to.
