Faro for two nights

Hello, I’m looking to escape the UK bad weather for my birthday in November and Ryan air is currently offering very cheap flights to Faro.

We would only go Friday to Sunday with my husband and 12 year old son. Where would you recommend for a relaxing stay not too far? We would like to be somewhere with restaurants and cafes walking distance as we would not be hiring a car.

Many thanks

In November, there is no guarantee it will be warm and suny around here. Most of the generally tourist activities in the Algarve will not be available. Many take a few weeks off from early November until Christmas. Faro is a small city of around 65,000 with several places you could stay and is only a 10 minute taxi or 20 minute bus ride from the airport. It is not a mainstream holiday resort, so doesn't 'close' for the winter.

If it's beach weather (only possibly, but it was last year) Faro beach is out near the airport.

The larger tourist destinations like Albufeira could be worth considering. Enough people live there to keep restaurants and bars open through the year, but it will be quiet. Albufeira is 35 - 40 minutes by road from the airport.

Thank you. Since we are only there for a very short period we will prob stay in Faro. Would the bars and restaurants along the beach be open too? As I am tempted to stay there and go to Faro ‘town’ for a day.

That I do not know for certain. A fair number of people do live on the island where the beach is located, so to me it's reasonable to assume their 'locals' will be open.

We've been out of season, fair to say you probably won't starve but won't be spoiled for choice staring at Praia de Faro. You would honestly be better staying in the city and going to the beach by bus if it's decent in my opinion. It gives you much more options of places to eat etc by night and things to do in case the weather isn't favourable. The buses are circa every half hour and take about 20 minutes to the beach.
