A MIDSUMMER TEMPEST

Anderson, a champion at the alternative universes game, takes a wild but successful gamble by postulating a world whose reality is that of Shakespeare's plays, where the Bard is known as the Historian. The dialogue is in iambic pentameter, and Oberon, Titania, Puck, Ariel and Caliban all put all materialize to help Prince Rupert, loyal and ultimately victorious supporter of King Charles the First. Cameo appearances by characters from previous books will puzzle novices and tease initiates but this is a mere quibble about a virtuoso performance.
