The Lazarus Project is coming back for season 2, and Screen Rant has a first look at the trailer and premiere date. Created by Joe Barton, the first season of the British sci-fi series premiered in 2022 and garnered a rare 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It stars Paapa Essiedu as George, a man whose genetic mutation allowed him to notice that he was being caught in time loop and which ultimately led him to begin working with a time-controlling organization called the Lazarus Project.

Screen Rant is happy to debut a new trailer for The Lazarus Project season 2 and reveal that the show will premiere June 9. The trailer recaps key events from season one—notably the way George started a nuclear war to force The Lazarus Project to turn back time to save his girlfriend--and promises twists that set it apart from even the best time travel shows. Take a look at the trailer, below, and get ready to watch the season when it airs June 9 at 9:00 PM ET/PT on TNT.

How The Lazarus Project Season 2 Raises The Stakes

When Screen Rant interviewed Paapa Essiedu about season one, he teased a “bigger and better” season 2, and the trailer gives a few clues as to how that may be achieved. The first and perhaps most important way in which the stakes will be raised in season 2 is in terms of George’s relationship with Sarah (Charly Clive). While Sarah’s death was the impetus for George’s biggest decisions in the first season, the reveal that she is joining The Lazarus Project in season 2 sets up a complicated dynamic as she and George work together to save the world.

Archie actor Anjli Mohindra also teased The Lazarus Project season 2 in an interview with Screen Rant, during which she stated that “the rules that we thought we knew about the world had been thrown out the window”. This seemingly starts with the world being stuck in a three-week time loop but extends to the world-ending event teased in the trailer, above. While George’s personal motivations were at the heart of season 1’s big moments, The Lazarus Project season 2 looks to see its characters facing a threat on a much larger scale.

That isn’t all, as the official synopsis for The Lazarus Project season 2 also reveals that George will discover that the cause he is fighting for is more sinister than it appears. This raises the stakes even higher, as it creates a third challenge for George to overcome. Between questioning The Lazarus Project’s intentions, navigating a complicated relationship with Sarah, and having to save the world, George’s journey in season 2 looks to be more difficult, and more exciting, than ever.

The Lazarus Project season 2 premieres June 9 on TNT.
