Booked the bottomless afternoon tea which seems to be the only available food offering at this quirky hotel. Food was average and nothing particularly exciting. Apart from average sandwiches and scones, the sweet treats were basic. Service (Sara who served us was very attentive and friendly) and atmosphere were great and drinks were flowing. Lovely atmosphere for drinks with friends. Nice outside terrace in the sunshine. Would return but for drinks only.

We were greeted by reception who was clearly acting as reception and rudely ushered us over to the restaurant by nodding and then pointed as 2 table options. He didn't show us to our table he pointed at 2 options then walked off. Then we were ignored for 10 minutes before a waitress offered us tea. I had to ask for our champagne as the idiot on reception hadn't passed our voucher to them. We were made to feel like a nuisance. No experience. Cream tea average. Staff left us for another 20 minutes. Would not recommend worst cream tea experience we have ever had

Lovely Hotel, very busy Saturday. Lots of large parties (hen party, baby showers etc). Student waitress , appeared unable to ‘swap’ out the meat and egg sandwiches for me. Informing me they might not have enough sandwiches to make the change! Forgot to bring the tea with the food. Had to ask twice. Nothing ‘luxury’ about the experience , including a tiny packet of ‘love heart’ sweets rather than a second cake choice. Basic at best.

Just a beautiful place to meet for afternoon tea! Service was great although it was very quiet in there. The guys waiting on our table were excellent too bent over backwards to be helpful The food was delicious and plenty of it tea of our choice and champagne as an added bonus so we definitely didn’t go home hungry in fact we took 2 doggy bags. A most enjoyable after noon

I had ordered a traditional afternoon tea for tea. I have had several of these for similar price in various places. We were fortunate to have an excellent table looking out the window onto the very busy street and it was fun to watch all of the passers by. However I believe that they had bought the sandwiches, scones etc. from Sainsbury's next door and cut them up to serve. The tea was a tea bag not loose and I had to go find the staff for extra tea, milk etc. In other afternoon teas they come by very regularly to check the teapot is hot, bring more tea, more fresh sandwiches etc. The best thing about it was the location of the table and that it was quiet. That is why I gave the ambience 5 stars. I am recommending it with caveats.

We had the Afternoon Tea experience. The food was well presented and varied. Three choices of sandwich fillings, I had the vegan version of cheese & pickle, salad & tomato and mixed bean wrap. The desserts were amazing especially the banoffee cheesecake! Comfortable surroundings and relaxed atmosphere. Very pleasant.

Slightly disappointed with selection of sandwiches which differed to menu. I would expect finger sandwiches. Cakes were disappointing only cake, then a tiny piece of brownie and mini apple crumble in a glass which isn't cake. The room and ambience was lovely. Very average.

On the whole we had a good experience. Noisy room but lively - at times difficult to talk and to hear our friends. The scones were beautifully done and fresh. I think we would have preferred less white bread in our sandwiches. The service was good but asked many times if we were ‘ ok, do you want another drink’ the impression was, though it may not have been intended, that we needed to consume further or move on. Peppermint tea was ghastly - tasting of water with no flavour but to their credit, they changed it. Just need to get better quality tea. Learn from Sondes tea house.

Not as good as it used to be. In the past we were escorted to our table, felt special overall. This time the service was fair, clearly a student learning the ropes and not well trained. Had the cheek to add the tip without asking, which I’m never a fan of in restaurants. I mentioned it was for 2 birthdays but no courtesy touch to address this. Poor, shame, don’t recommend

Tea for two. Scones should be plain not fruit. Sandwiches need crust cut off. Homemade products would have been better.

The quality of the drink (Prosecco) was really bad . It was really nasty and made me feel unwell. Prices are hugely over inflated and staff took a long time to serve despite there being plenty of them.

Visited for afternoon tea which is £24.95pp, and it really wasn't value for money. Food was very disappointing! The equivalent of 2 slices of processed bread cut into triangles, 1 small wrap cut in half, 2 tiny prawn vol au vents, 4 scones (2 flavoured with tangerine(?) which really didn't go with raisins), 2 tiny jars of jam & 2 small clotted cream pots. Also, 2 miniscule mince pies, 2 tiny trifles in shot glasses & 2 tiny Victoria sponges finished off the tea. The scones crumbled once cut, so it was almost impossible to put cream & jam on them. The only good thing was we managed to get 3 pots of tea, but we had to wait until barman/waitress was serving another table & then catch them on their way back to ask for more cream & jam, milk & tea! Service was poor after initial greeting, & we requested service charge be removed from the bill. I should have asked for another reduction from the bill as it was very poor value for money, I doubt if the ingredients totalled more than £10. We won't be returning.

Had a lovely festive afternoon tea. It was our first time visiting the Falstaff and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful decoration throughout, friends staff and fantastic food. My only minor complaint was that we were sat in an awkward place which made it tight with a highchair and pram.

Our party didn’t eat just had a post birthday meal drink. Service was not great, was taken to a table laid out for food, informed the lady we was just having a drink not a meal, she just shrugged and said it’s fine to sit there. We moved ourselves to the sofa area, and let her know we had moved, she then rolled her eyes to another member of staff, yes we saw that! The gentleman who served our drinks was very attentive but when it came to paying he disappeared and the other staff had absolutely no clue what to do. Wasn’t impressed, was made to feel like we were a hindrance. Such a shame as The Falstaff is a beautiful setting for a drink or meal but the service lets it down.

Had a wonderful afternoon head at the Falstaff this week. The decor is lovely, although would have been been perfect if the open fire was in use! On arrival, the gentleman at the front desk lifted his head to acknowledge our present, listened to why we were there, walked off (obviously to alert a colleague of our presence) then returned to his post behind the front desk all without muttering one single word to us!! Found this to be quite…rude. Not exactly providing the Falstaff with a great first impression! However, the young lady who served us more than made up for it! She was polite, personable, incredibly accommodating and all round a lovely host! The food was top notch, what we were served was delicious so made up for not being exactly what was advertised on the menu. Ignoring the usual traffic noise outside, it was very quiet inside. For some this may heaven, for us, almost felt like we had to whisper so maybe some low background music would suit. We were lucky enough to have been given a gift certificate for the afternoon tea, however I would say it was worth the value being charged. All in all a very lovely and enjoyable time spent at The Falstaff for our quintessentially English afternoon tea!!

Booked a table at lunchtime using OpenTable. Issue at restaurant that table for "food" not booked. This was not made clear at booking point, assumption that when you book a table at lunchtime it is for lunch. The only option available was pizza as part of bottomless brunch. The staff were helpful but please make your booking easier. When someone books a table at lunchtime in a hotel they will assume this will include food!

Last minute booking due to cancelled plans in London but they called to confirm and were so accommodating and genuinely happy to have us. The service was amazing and so attentive, food was unreal - proper Italian pizzas, and they refilled our glasses so quickly! Only downfall is that you can’t mix the drinks, so once you’ve ordered one you have to stick to that (i.e. prosecco) but would be nice to have tried out one of the slushies! But can’t fault it other than that and the prosecco was delicious, and it also keeps you from mixing too many drinks which is good really!

Friendly helpful Staff. Busy atmosphere As there is a bar quite close to the tables. Not a traditional afternoon tea setting but still nice. The tea itself was pleasant but not the best, fairly basic sandwiches And average cakes. It was a really nice touch that the person we were celebrating was brought out a little personalised plate of extras a lovely idea.

Hotel was not as smart and glamorous as expected and food served in takeaway boxes but that was due to Covid restrictions. Afternoon tea food was absolutely delicious could not fault it at all. Quite pricey at £16 per head but lovely for a treat. Excellent service
