Aptos High School Reviews
Rating 3.8 out of 5 226 reviews
Aptos is a great place, if you're interested in a good blend of academics and athletics, rigorous and laid-back classes. It is by no means the best school ever, it is still a public school. There are some great aspects with some of the best being the new and improving STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) classes and CTE (career technical education) classes. These classes are focused and provide real-world applications for often interesting topics. Some of the best include Biotechnology and Construction. However, the negatives are glaring. Safety is a major concern. Many students do not feel physically safe during day-to-day campus life and although steps have been taken to assure our safety as students, many are still worried. Overall, 6.5/10 Aptos does it's best
I found they did not do the greatest job in preparing students for college and showing kids what they needed to do to get into a good college. However, there is a positive community and a good school culture around Aptos High School!
Despite a rocky start with a critical incident and lockdown, Aptos has overall been a good experience for my student. We expected an increase in communication abilities on campus after the lockdown, which has still not occured, and the options for advance placement classes are limited. College counselors are primarily focused on in-state and local community colleges than higher level and out of state colleges. (Our career center advisor did not know where the University of Washington was located.) Otherwise, our experience has been good. Sports are well funded, science seems important and student diversity is accepted.
