In yet another edition of the Kapamilya Tree, we present another popular showbiz clan—the Sottos. It all started with the four Sotto brothers: Vicente "Tito" Sotto III, Marvic (Vic), Marcelino Antonio Jr. (Maru), and Valmar (Val). Their parents were Marcelino Antonio Ojeda Sotto and Dr. Herminia Castelo Sotto.
Val Sotto (b. 1945) was one of the lead vocalists of the all-male disco group VST & Company, along with Tito Sotto and Vic. The group was prominent in the late 1970s and rose to fame with other bands that were grouped under the Manila Sound genre. They released disco singles such as "Swing It, Baby", "Magsayawan", "Ipagpatawad Mo", "Awitin Mo, Isasayaw Ko" and "Disco Fever". The all-male group's name, "V.S.T", are the initials of its three lead vocalists: Val, Spanky Rigor, and Tito. Aside from being a singer, Val is also a composer, a comedian, and an actor. He also serves as a councilor in Parañaque City. He is married to Theresa Marco Sotto since December 14, 1969. They have four children (Beverly, Valerie, Vanessa, and Victor) and seven grandchildren (Vajo, Gaby, Thalia, Breanna, Anaiah, Amina, and Vittorio).
Tito Sotto (b. 1948) started his TV career as a host in the 1970s. He also dabbled into songwriting and singing as a member of their disco funk band. While co-hosting a variety game show, he also serves as a member of the Senate. He is married to beauty queen, actress, and singer Helen Gamboa. They have four children (Romina, Diorella, Gian and Ciara), seven grandsons (Romino, Victorio, Vicente IV, Edrigu, Alessandro, Marciano and Rossano), and a granddaughter (Helena).
Ciara Sotto, now married to Jojo Oconer, is the youngest daughter of Tito Sotto and Helen Gamboa. She made her first TV appearance at the age of six. Along with Danica Sotto and Jocas de Leon, she became a member of the group "Ang TVJ (Tito, Vic, and Joey) Kids" during her teenage years. She gave birth to her baby boy in February 2015 and named him, Vincezo Xose.
Elaine Gamboa (1934-2014), aunt of Ciara and sister of Helen, was legally married to former Manila mayor Pablo Cuneta (1910-2000) in 1993. They had two children: Ceasar "Chet" Cuneta and Sharon Cuneta. The two have more than 20 half-siblings. The Megastar recorded her first single "Tawag ng Pag-ibig" at the age of 12 in 1978. Eventually, she became one of the big names in the industry as a singer, actress, TV host, and endorser. She married on-screen partner and co-actor Gabby Concepcion in 1984. Her first born is KC Concepcion, an actress and singer herself. At present, Sharon is married to Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan. They have three kids: Frankie, Miguel, and Miel.
Vic Sotto (b. 1954) is also known in the industry as Bossing. He is an actor, TV host, comedian, and film producer. He owns a film and TV prod called M - Zet Productions. He started his career as a folk singer and guitarist and eventually joined VST & Company. He also joined his brothers Tito and Val in the gag show OK Lang in the early 1970s. In the last three decades, he has done sitcoms and comedy shows for three networks.
Before getting married to actress Pauleen Luna, Vic Sotto had a daughter (Paulina Sotto) with Angela Luz, a son (Vico Sotto) with actress Coney Reyes, and two children (Danica Sotto and Oyo Boy Sotto) with actress Dina Bonnevie. Paulina graduated as cum laude in 2015 and was given a luxurious car as a gift from her dad. Vic's son, actor Oyo Boy (born Vittorio Mari Sotto), married actress Kristine Hermosa in 2011. They have three children: adopted son Kristian Daniel or Kiel (b. 2008), daughter Ondrea Bliss (b. 2011), and their youngest Kaleb Hanns (b. 2014). Actress and TV host Danica Sotto is married to professional basketball player Marc Pingris. They have two children, a son named Jean Michael, and a daughter named Anielle Micaela. Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” Sotto is currently running for councilor in the first district of Pasig.
Maru Sotto is an actor known for Samson & Goliath (1990). He was in a seven-year marriage with singer, talk show host, and broadcaster Ali Sotto. They have two kids: matinee idol and teen star Marcelino Antonio "Miko" Carag Sotto III (1982-2003) and US-based IT professional Chino Sotto.
