The Richmond Marriott garners praise for its array of amenities, including a well-equipped gym and multiple dining options, although the snack bar sometimes falls short in restocking. Staff members at the hotel receive acclaim for their cordial and professional demeanor, even though they may occasionally be less efficient. While the rooms are generally celebrated for their cleanliness and comfort, some guests have expressed concerns regarding soundproofing and room assignments. The inviting atmosphere and meticulous housekeeping stand out to many visitors. However, the value proposition is contentious, with critiques centered on the pricey amenities and parking. Nonetheless, the hotel's location is consistently lauded for its convenience to the convention center and downtown attractions.

The hotel was lovely and the staff was friendly during my 5-day stay. However, I was very disappointed to learn there were no microwaves in the rooms. This is the first hotel I've visited (even during the pandemic) that didn't have microwaves in the rooms. There were refrigerators, however.

The hotel did offer coffee/hot water in the lobby daily until noon. However, the "hot" water was tepid every time (I'm a tea drinker). I also don't understand why the coffee/hot water wasn't available all day since we had no way to heat food or water in our rooms.

When I first asked about the microwaves, the front desk staff graciously offered to heat items for guests. I took advantage of this once, with a mug of water for an evening cup of tea. It took five minutes to heat (she apologetically told me their microwave was archaic), and the water was still tepid.

I wanted to self-isolate, but the lack of an accommodation as simple as a microwave made that difficult and costly. I was very disappointed, and this issue is enough to keep me from staying with them again.

treykagirl, Thank you for taking time to review the Richmond Marriott Downtown. Sorry we do not have microwaves in our guest rooms yet I am happy to see our staff were able to accommodate you. We have replaced the microwave in our public space to ensure it heats properly. Our new Starbucks will be operational in a few weeks which all of our guests will be able to enjoy.

It’s hard to truly rate a hotel in these “post” COVID-19 days. The level of service and amenities has necessarily declined to allow for social distancing and other safety precautions. Additionally, staffing numbers have declined. In spite of all that, the customer care at this hotel was exceptional. The valets were friendly and helpful, the front desk staff answered our questions and took time to look up local attractions for us, and housekeeping supplied whatever we requested. A special shout out to Sylvia and Freda who staffed the breakfast buffet. They were both friendly, attentive and - best of all - fun!

I recently stayed at the Richmond Marriott for two nights on a business trip and had flawless experience. The valet parking was efficient and prompt -- the rooms which were newly renovated were clean and modern with all the electronic plug-ins that you need… The M club staff was responsive… The front desk staff was pleasant and always greeting you in the morning. The gym had all the right equipment that was modern and having a Starbucks in the lobby is always a benefit The ability to scan a QR code for your valet parking was very efficient and got rid of all of the worry about when your car would show up

I felt the staff across the board was very attentive very customer focused well trained energetic and created a positive experience from the lobby to parking to the restaurant

Overall this will be the hotel that I stay at when I visit Richmond

We had to stay at this hotel due to an event. The construction is a constant jackhammer noise. 8am to 6pm as well as Saturday. Earplugs are offered when you check in. I had read the reviews and was dreading the noise so I brought my own ear plugs. The jackhammering can still be heard. No restaurant. The Starbucks kiosk was the only thing there and the wait was 45 minutes to get a cup of coffee.
The room I stayed in had not been renovated yet. You have to step into the corner of the bathroom to shut the door. That is how small the bathroom is. When the construction work was finally done that is when you can tell how thin the walls are between rooms. I felt like I was a part of the next room’s conversation. I could hear everything.
The drive there was long so I decided to valet park because it was very late when we arrived. The next day I decided to move my car to the self park lot since the cost of valet was $29/day. It took over an hour to get the car. The valet gentleman was as nice as could be but they need more workers to cut down the wait time.

We were so dissapointed! 1. NO MICROWAVES! Really cause that is so convientent for those of us staying Thursday to Sunday and have a child who can't just eat whatever. We premake her meals. On top of no microwave they had no restuarant and the food option they did have was cold and limited. The noise was unbelieveable due to construction. I was told none of the rooms had microwaves and none of them will once the renovations are complete. When we first arrived to valet parking area the poor kids that were working down there were so losted and so overwhelmed. I had to get out and help them a bit or we probably would have been sitting there all night. The sink in the bathroom was a joke! The faucet sits so far back that when you wash your hands water gets all over the counter. Oh and don't dare ask to be in a room next to someone you know.

Some positives: The guy that helped us with our suitcases to the room was great! It is connected to the convention center which is where we needed to be. Housekeeping staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was clean.

The hotel has very deceptive policies. I booked three rooms at this hotel for two nights each - December 11 - 13. I am a Marriott Titanium for life and an Ambassador. I used six suite night awards to get all three rooms upgraded. None of the rooms were a Suite. They were all newly renovated single rooms but not a suite. As a Titanium for life and an Ambassador, this should have been an upgrade without having to use my Suite awards.

When I complained, they responded that they consider upgraded rooms to be a suite,

Be careful before booking a suite at this hotel because it won't be a suite.

Customer service is not something this hotel has,

Very disappointed and feel ripped off - lost 6 Suite night awards.

I will not stay there again or recommend it to anyone else. You will find many other choices in the area.

We stayed here for an event at the neighboring convention center recently. Welcoming front desk staff and valet (although we self parked). Very pleasant check in. Room was comfortable. However, there were some hairs on the bedsheets. There was quite a bit of construction going on at the far end of the hall. There isn't much of a lobby so if you are meeting someone downstairs there isn't a real seating area. Our biggest complaint is that housekeeping did not return our pillows. We bring our own pillows because oftentimes hotel pillows are too high for us. The Marriott pillows turned out to be fine, but because of the need to park at a neighboring parking deck we brought the pillows up to the room just in case. When we checked out we accidentally left the pillows on one of the beds. These are clearly NOT Marriott pillows because they do not have white pillow cases. Nevertheless, when we realized our oversight and called the hotel it seems that housekeeping did not save our pillows. We have left several messages and the Marriott staff keeps saying they will call us back but no one has done so. Poor service in that respect.

I am Marriott Titanium and make it a point to stay in Marriotts almost exclusively when I travel. When in Richmond I have usually stayed here, but for various reasons, a couple times in the last year when I've gone to Richmond I've stayed in other hotels (usually because all the meetings were in that hotel). This stay I had the option so I chose the Marriott. First, they are doing renovations so I expected things to be in disarray physically, but the service was what killed it for me.

I checked into my room, and found that the toilet had been used since the room was cleaned (I won't go into details, but it was not subtle). As I had just a few minutes to get ready before I had to be somewhere, I quickly changed and headed out but stopped by the front desk to let them know. They apologized and assured me it would be clean when I returned a few hours later. When I returned, I stopped by the front desk again, and they assured me it had been cleaned. I got to the room, and it had not. At this point, it was 11pm and I wanted to get to bed, so they offered to have me swap rooms. That process took over 40 minutes to get me into a new room about 10 doors down the hallway, and I didn't get to be until well after midnight.

After the visit, I noticed two charges on my credit card, one for the actual hotel charges, and a second charge that did not make any sense. I called, and spoke with the night auditor, and she looked at it and said I was accidentally charged both my actual charges, plus the initial credit card hold, but that she could not fix it and that I'd have to call back during the day to talk to accounting. At this point, I've called 8-10 times, and left messages three times, with no return call.

So the issues at this hotel go beyond renovations, as there is a fundamental lack of management and service going on right now. Again, I'll give them a chance after renovations are complete, but until then stay away.

Completely satisfied. I and one colleague stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. Location of the property was convenient for business, rooms were quite and great welcoming staff. Gaurav snd his team handled very well/professionally with lined-up and offered bottle of water upon check-in. Overall it was very pleasant from frontdesk to restaurant. Rooms were kept clean and well stocked with the necessary supplies.

clutch the valet was very courteous and provided us with a luggage cart.
Eugene-Front desk personnel was very helpful, friendly and courteous. He even walked us to the elevator.
Mari the room attendant had the room immaculate. The view was amazing. The room/ bathroom supplies shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, mouthwash, qtips, lotion, cotton balls, nice fluffy towels, tea and coffee pods for coffee maker, pull out couch, full length mirror, 4 nice fluffy pillows for each bed, plenty of USB and outlets for all your electronics. A lot of great amenities you normally don't get at other hotels. The room was very spacious. They offer free shuttle 7am to 7pm. There is a $40 charge for parking even though you' are a guest. We didn't get a chance to go to the restaurant but it was very busy. Highly recommend this hotel.

The Marriott is between.5th and 6th streets. The national is at 7th Street. The walk is very short. But Richmond is not known for being a safe place. I would be very cautious walking anywhere in Downtown Richmomd after dark. If you are attending an event and It is letting out so there is a crowd then it is probably ok but don't dawdle. Walk with purpose to get back to the hotel.
