Q&A
I’m like 90 percent sure it’s due to Sinatras mob ties that Scorsese undoubtedly wants to talk about
Also I remember reading Sinatras children disapproved of his marriage both to Gardner and farrow
It's kind of hilarious if that's the case, because it's not as if virtually every Sinatra fan doesn't know he had mob ties/friends. I mean, the whole thing with Sam Giancana and the Vegas Gambling Board, for starters.
They should be glad that one of America's most famous filmmakers of all time wants to portray their father and stop trying to maintain a perfect image, especially because he never maintained one himself in his own lifetime. He laid his flaws out for all to see.
And the time Frank tried to fight the Godfather writer in a bar
The thing you have to keep in mind about lil' Nancy is that she's nuts.
A bit cuckoo for cocoa puffs, as they say? I know she didn't actually create the tweet herself, but it's simply a stupid fucking thing to say or share. Of course two actors will never be the original people, duh, but I'm guessing her Dad probably portrayed a real person in his career at some point too, did he deserve to be dissed because he wanted to play a certain role?
He played Joe e Lewis in the joker is wild so there’s an example of Sinatra playing a real person.
I think for the most part that‘s her. Or it’s the most uncanny impersonation ever. Twenty five years of interacting with her online leads me to this conclusion.
It'll have to be an unofficial biopic if it gets done. The Sinatra estate will never green light this project unless it avoids mob ties entirely.
Since Frank didn’t write his own songs, do they need the estates permission to use them? Or just the songwriters ok?
Ava Gardner was a Femme Fatale, brought a guy like Frank to his knees. JLaw is that drunk chick you wish you hadn’t started talking to at a party
Her and Tina always seem to enjoy playing these games. Just fucking approve it or kill it already and move on, sheesh.
I vote for move on. We don't need a bloated three and half hour movie with a 64 year old Leo DiCaprio playing a 29 year old FAS, and a 93 year old Robert DeNiro playing Tommy Dorsey.
Lol, Tommy always looked about 93 to me even when he was younger, so maybe that casting decision might not be bad :)
I get where you're coming from as far as moving on, but I'm just still curious though to see what Marty would do with it--he's made some of my all-time favorite movies so I cut him a shitload of slack still. If him and Leo could manage something even half as good as the The Aviator, I'm down to see it.
OH, WE DO....
Wait I need exactly that
I'm still trying to figure out why the Sinatras never acknowledged Steve Lawrence's death on social media.
Didn’t Junior try to sue him for using arrangements Sinatra had gifted him?
Didn't know about that. That's a tough family to figure out.
I’m very glad I didn’t grow up Frank Sinatra’s kid.
Jennifer Lawrence fucking sucks. Shes not hot and I have logs of wood in my back yard that can act better than she can.
She's definitely an odd choice to me for Ava, not that I could name any current actresses who would be able to pull it off. Any ideas though?
Anna De Armas is actually probably a lot like Ava Gardner. It’s funny how people put Gardner on a pedestal when all indications are she was a bit of a hot mess.
Oh man, I was just thinking of Anna and the connection.
Too bad Marty already used Kate Beckinsale for Ava in the Aviator. She killed it, but obviously with Leo playing opposite her, the same character would just seem lazy.
Grace Currey, Victoria Justice, anyone but JLaw
Gonna have to take your word on those two, I must be too old to know about 'em, haha.
If they can cover that man's music, drive, voice, comebacks, vulnerability, the mob era, rat pack, riddle, his absolute wounded devotion and obsession with Ava...the kidnapping, JFK...
I trust MS & Leo...they are so talented...even if I can't picture it. This thing will need to be longer than the Irishman.
If Tina gets out of the way so they can use the music....this will make my decade...
If Marty ends up not being able to make the movie, he would still be my choice to make the definitive Sinatra documentary. I'm in for 8 hours of that.
same. I'd rather have that than a scripted thing. The All or Nothing At All was pretty good but felt cheap in comparison to something Marty could do.
Celebrity biopics are kinda cringe, and it feels like yet another Hollywood "money-in-the-bank" template lately
Why do the same 10 celebrities play every role as if there's a Hollywood Playhouse Cast Roster, rather than scouting talent out there who could nail the Sinatra part?
Scorsese knows music so I think this movie may actually be really good
The Sinatra family is protective of the image they would like to present to the public about Frank, just like Frank himself was. I sort of disregard their opinions on everything and let the music speak for itself.
