CFA GRADUATE FUNDING APPEAL FORM
Appeal Process:
In most cases, the scholarship offer made with your admission to our graduate programs is the highest scholarship award the College of Fine Arts can support. However, in some rare cases, we can offer assistance through emergency one time only grants. To be considered you must fill out the form below.
Boston University College of Fine Arts cannot offer any scholarship, assistantship, or grant aid to students in our online programs, and the College of Fine Arts does not participate in the TEACH or other federal grant programs.
Important Note: By submitting an appeal, you agree that completing an appeal does not guarantee financial aid will be increased and any financial obligations remain due according to payment deadlines.
Appeal Timeline
- Academic Year Appeals – Complete appeal forms received before mid-September will be reviewed considering the full academic year.
- Second Semester Appeals – Complete appeal forms received after mid-September will be reviewed for appeal funding beginning in the spring semester.
Appeal Review
• Appeals are reviewed by a committee on a case-by-case basis.
• Incomplete appeals will cause delays in review as the committee will only review complete appeals.
• The committee may request additional or updated information before making a decision.
• Appeal decisions by the committee are final and not subject to further review within the same semester.
Appeals are reviewed by a small committee in batches, so the results of your appeal are not immediate. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing once you have submitted your appeal request.

My appeal request was denied. Can I appeal again next year?
Yes, you can always re-apply for financial aid next year and appeal for reconsideration in the future. We encourage you to bring any new or changed circumstances to our attention. However, we urge you to carefully consider your options and whether resources currently available to you are sufficient to support the net cost of your studies at BU.
How do I appeal my undergraduate aid?
The central financial aid office reviews undergraduate appeals for reconsideration. Please refer to the website link below or email them at finaid@bu.edu.

How much can I request in my appeal?
The average award for appeals that are granted range from $1000-$3000, however, all requests are given consideration by the review committee.
When and how will I be notified of your decision on my appeal request?
Once your form is submitted, our Financial Aid Appeals Committee will determine the results of your appeal and inform you of their decision. All communication regarding special circumstance requests are sent via email. The committee may request additional documentation, so be sure to check your email regularly if you’ve submitted an appeal.
Can I request reinstatement of my funding if I am returning from a leave?
Yes. In the semester prior to your return from leave, please submit the form below and request consideration for the reinstatement of your pre-leave funding. Include in your request a timeline for completion of your degree. Funding reinstatement after a leave is not guaranteed.
