Summer School is a great option for students who wish to complete an additional credit, upgrade a mark, or take part in Summer School Co-op for experiential learning.  Courses are offered to students currently in grades 9 to 12, as well as for adult learners working towards their high school diploma. Classes will run Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. from be July 2 to 29, 2024 (inclusive).

  • Course Offerings for Summer School 2024
  • Full credits will be offered in 110 hours of instruction.
  • Half-credits and make-up courses will be offered in 55 hours of instruction. These are open to students who have completed the same course during the academic year and who either did not earn the credit, or who earned the credit but wish to upgrade their final passing mark. Students are encouraged to speak with their Guidance Counsellor when making a decision as to whether taking the 55-hour make-up course or the full 110-hour course would be most appropriate.

Students will have the opportunity to study either in-person, remotely or online through the Brightspace platform with available weekly in-person support at the chosen Summer School site.  Here is a summary of the modalities, however if you want more information, please read below.

In-person

In-person Sites

  • Brampton: Brampton Centennial S.S., Castlebrooke S.S., Fletcher's Meadow S.S.
  • Mississauga: Rick Hansen S.S, Stephen Lewis S.S

In-person Program

  • This is a fully in-person program which requires daily and punctual student attendance.
  • Teachers will still maintain a Brightspace course shell for communication and posting of supplementary resources for their students.
  • In-person sites will offer two-week sections of both Civics (CHV2O1 or 2O2) and Careers (GLC 2O1 or 2O2).
    • Students may choose one or both courses as per their needs.  If choosing both, students must do so at the same site and will need to ensure that they are aware of the format (i.e., in-person, remote or online) that they are choosing.

Remote

Remote Sites

  • Brampton: Turner-Fenton S.S.
  • Mississauga: Mississauga S.S.

Remote Program

  • Summer School remote learning occurs when classes are taught at a distance and when students and educators are not in a conventional setting.
  • Remote sites will provide synchronous and asynchronous learning.
  • All students are required to attend synchronous learning sessions, unless they have opted out with the permission of their parents if under 18. To opt out a student from synchronous learning sessions, parents or students 18+ are required to complete the following exemption form and submit it to your respective site per the email addresses below.
  • Remote teachers will be available for in-person support at their respective sites for the first three days of the course, then one day per week thereafter.
  • Some remote courses may have a proctored in-person final summative.
  • Synchronous times will be posted on the VLE at the start of the course.
  • Students selecting remote courses will have optional weekly in-person support, so it will be important to select a remote site that is accessible to them should they wish to take advantage of the in-person support.
  • These courses will not count towards the 2 mandatory secondary school online learning graduation requirements.
  • Due to technical limitations, students taking remote courses will NOT have access to their Brightspace page when travelling outside of Ontario.  It is strongly recommended that students refrain from making travel plans during Summer School.

Online

Online Sites (with available weekly in-person support)

  • Brampton: David Suzuki S.S., Louise Arbour S.S., Sandalwood Heights S.S.
  • Mississauga: Cawthra Park S.S., John Fraser S.S.

Online Program

  • All online sections will provide students with some flexibility and independence for students.
  • All online sites will provide asynchronous engagement via the Brightspace platform with available synchronous office hour support periods daily.
  • Synchronous office hours will be shared with students and posted on Brightspace at the start of the course.
  • Online teachers will be available for in-person support at their respective sites for the first three days of the course, then one day per week thereafter.
  • Some online courses may have a proctored in-person final summative.
  • Online office hours will be shared with students at the start of the course.
  • Students selecting online courses will have optional weekly in-person support, so it will be important to select an on-line site that is accessible to them should they wish to take advantage of the support.
  • These courses will count towards the 2 mandatory secondary school online learning graduation requirements.
  • Due to technical limitations, students taking remote courses will NOT have access to their Brightspace page when travelling outside of Ontario.  It is strongly recommended that students refrain from making travel plans during Summer School.
