FIFA+ chooses ten players whose performances could re-write the script at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Serbia’s fate depends on the form of their sergeant.

  • Lazio midfielder has won 35 caps for Serbia

  • He lifted the U20 FIFA World Cup™ in 2015

  • Serbia are joined in group G by Brazil, Switzerland and Cameroon

Armed with a talented crop of midfielders and a deadly frontline, Serbia have the chance to be one of the revelations of the FIFA World Cup™ Qatar 2022.

The Eagles soared into the tournament, finishing top of their qualifying group ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal following an unforgettable victory in Lisbon, before sealing promotion to League A in the UEFA Nations League in September, with 27-year-old midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic a big part of the nation's recent success.

Nicknamed ‘The Sergeant’, the Lazio player is one of Europe's top midfielders and is lighting him up Serie A this term, and many feel if Serbia are to better their best post-war World Cup showing of the quarter-finals, their dreams could hinge on the six-foot-three-inch powerhouse.

The nation's starman, however, prefers to have some perspective. "We should have realistic expectations and stay calm," he said. "Our first objective is to qualify from the group stage."

Serbia begin their campaign on Thursday 24 November against Brazil.
