    This course provides a framework in which to use parts work skills safely. It will add versatility to your practice enabling you to adapt your skills to each client. It provides the learning conditions to integrate theory and skills into your practice to help your clients understand themselves better and create choices.

  • A qualification, Parts work informed counsellor

    Upon completion you can refer to yourself as a ‘counsellor using parts work. This is subject to you being in regular supervisor with an understanding in child and adolescent development informed supervisor.

This advanced certificate brings together cutting-edge parts work theory from different disciplines across psychotherapy and trauma therapy to add a versatile skill set to your practice. No one way works for all clients, and this includes parts work.

  • In this course, you will gain a deeper working-understanding of :

  • The Psychology of Selves model founded by Hal and Sidra Stone – Hall was a Jungian therapist and Sidra a Behaviourist – they have a psychospiritual element to their work

  • Voice Dialogue is the application of The Psychology of Selves model where the practitioner enters into a dialogue with their clients different parts

  • Structural dissociation is an important trauma theory founded by van der Hart, Nijenhuis & Steele and further integrated into sensorimotor psychotherapy by Janine Fisher

  • Internal Family Systems model founded by Richard Schwartz for inner child healing. Bessel Van Der Kolk on IFS: “the treatment method that all clinicians should know to treat clients effectively”.

  • Some clients gain a lot from moving positions, in the room, and talking from a part where their part really gets the opportunity to express themselves and be heard (voice dialogue) whilst other clients prefer the more internal and guided work of IFS. Structural Dissociation provides a sold theory to help clients understand their different parts whilst providing the therapist with the neurological understanding.

  • This advanced certificate will both deepen and broaden your work with clients supporting you to assess and work with a range of complex client presentations, working safely and effectively.

  • Supervision time will be integrated throughout the training.

  • Within this course there will be more theory, particularly around complex trauma, skills practice, discussion groups and supervision to support you to integrate PARTS WORK practice into your client work.

Peer Group and Triad

We encourage the practice during peer groups in the training session but the meeting outside the class is not mandatory. Our training strongly emphasizes the practical application of skills and collaborative learning. You can expect to engage in skill practice, participate in triad sessions, and connect with peers during the training, all designed to enhance your learning experience.

  • Skills Practice: This course is the bridge between theory and real-world application. You should be well-prepared for skill practice sessions, where you can put your knowledge into practical use.

  • Triad Sessions: Collaborate with your peers in triad groups, actively engaging in discussions to exchange ideas and insights.

  • Peer Group Time: We invite students to connect with their peers to discuss the training, practice, and provide mutual support in the writing process. While we highly encourage participation, recognizing it as a valuable opportunity for collective growth, it's important to note that attendance is not mandatory.

    £890. The price includes all the material for the course, the PDF for each session, the 20 hours of videos from the Foundation certificate in PARTS work, the marking for the writing assignment and access to the recording of each advanced training day.

  • Location

    We plan to use the Zoom platform and its facilities with breakout rooms for small group activities and more intimate contact if needed.

  • Zoom Workshop Participation Guidelines

    This workshop will be hosted by TEMENOS on the Zoom meeting platform. To ensure active participation in the training, we kindly request that all participants: Keep their cameras on throughout the session. Ensure they are in an environment that respects the confidentiality of the group. Use proper microphones to facilitate group interactions. Please note that every session will be recorded and accessible to each group cohort.

  • Writing Assignment

    1 Case Study: (1) 1500 words comparing and contrasting PoS, IFS and SD; (2) 1500 words reflections on personal growth & use of supervision; (3) 3000 words Integrating parts work into own practice drawing upon a range of examples, within part work principles of ethical and safe practice and showing awareness of working with cultural difference.

Who can apply & prerequisite’s

  • Therapy

    To have completed a minimum of 40 hours personal therapy. And, to have worked through your own trauma sufficiently to undertake a course of this nature.

  • Trainees in 2nd years & counsellors

    This course is for qualified counsellors/psychotherapists and trainees in their 2nd year who are working with clients

  • Responsibilities & External Support

    To have the capacity to take responsibility for own safety and capacity to take responsibility for own reactions, experiences and feelings. To have sufficient external support and to be prepared to work through anything that arises during the training in supervision or personal therapy.

  • NOTE

    Please note that this course is a professional training and not to process your own trauma or past. Due to the personal development aspect of the course it’s not unusual for past traumas to get stirred.

  • It’s important that you are able to stabilise yourself during the training and to take personal material into your own therapy. It’s important that your own material doesn’t interfere with your learning and the learning of the group so having sufficient support in place is vital.

  • Please follow the link to apply on the Temenos website and to pay your deposit. This is to secure your place on the course.

  • You will then be invited to a 1-hour induction meeting for course orientation and to ask any questions. It will also be an opportunity to get to know your peers.

Resources

  • You will receive handouts and powerpoint slides throughout the training, along with some audio & video recordings.

  • A reading list will be provided upon acceptance onto the course.

  • All the session will be recorded and accessible after the course

  • You will have access to all the videos from the self learning videos of the Foundation certificate in Parts work counselling, witch represents 20 hours training.

Additional information

  • It’s important that the learning environment is safe for you and your group. Should the material of the course impact you to the point where your learning & that of the group is impacted then your tutor will arrange a tutorial with you. In exceptional circumstances, for your safety, you may be withdrawn from the course.

  • Please be aware that the case study is due on the submission deadline. Any outstanding work after the course is finished will incur a marking fee of £40 an hour.

  • Text length of individual points can be shorter or longer depending on your needs
