Axel Foley is back, baby!

Eddie Murphy is officially reprising his role as the iconic Detroit detective one more time in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, which is set to premiere on Netflix in summer 2024.

The streaming platform just unveiled the first teaser trailer, in which Murphy shares the screen with some familiar faces for the first time in almost 30 years. Judge Reinhold and John Ashton return as detectives Billy Rosewood and John Taggart, while newcomer Taylour Paige plays Foley’s daughter Jane, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Foley’s new partner, Bobby. Kevin Bacon also stars.

The trailer shows Foley returning to Beverly Hills to investigate a threat made against his daughter’s life. Though he gets warned about causing too much trouble in Beverly Hills, trouble still seems to find Foley as he fights his way out of shootouts and car chases, and breaks out of prison – twice. Scroll up to check out the entire trailer for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

The 62-year-old comedy legend does not miss a beat in this new iteration of the character he originated when he was 23.

In a recent interview, Murphy credited Top Gun: Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer with successfully bringing the movie to fruition after years of being stuck in development.

“When he got involved and he started developing the script, and he knew what Beverly Hills Cop is supposed to be, when he got back involved, that’s when it all started to come together,” Murphy told Collider“We tried for years and years — maybe 10, 12 years — and I must’ve read five or six different scripts and it was never right.”

He added, “Jerry Bruckheimer got back in there and he knows his shit and he put it together … He put all the pieces in place for us to make a great movie and I’m excited for people to see it.”

A release date has not been announced yet, but stay tuned.

For now, the previous three Beverly Hills Cop entries are all streaming on Paramount+.
