Kim Chang-wan served as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the South Korean rock band Sanulrim, which he formed with his brothers Kim Chang-hoon and Kim Chang-ik. Their debut album released in 1977 enjoyed critical and commercial success. With more than 10 albums under their belt, they are considered to be one of South Korea’s most influential rock bands. They disbanded in 2008 following Kim Chang-ik’s death in a traffic accident in Canada. In 2020, Kim Chang-wan released a solo album titled Door.


Kim Chang-wan also boasts of a successful career as an actor. In 2007, he received the PD Award at the MBC Drama Awards for his roles in White Tower and Coffee Prince. In 2009, he took home the Golden Acting Award at the MBC Drama Awards for his work in Queen of Housewives and Triple. In 2013, he was cast in the hit fantasy romantic comedy You From Another Star. His performance in the series earned him a Special Award at the 2014 SBS Drama Awards. Also in 2013, he headlined the slasher film Doctor, in which he played a psychopathic plastic surgeon. In 2020, he reunited with his You From Another Star co-star Kim Soo-hyun in the popular tvN romantic drama It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.


Kim Chang-wan tied the knot in 1978. He graduated from the Seoul National University.
